Eva Psychee Patalinjug: Will She Continue Cebu’s Winning Streak in Mutya ng Pilipinas?

I was quite delighted to find not one but three familiar faces among the six official bets of Central Visayas for the 2014 Mutya ng Pilipinas national finals.

Aside from Aivy Castro who represented Tagbilarn City in the 2013 Miss Beauche International Pageant held at the Solaire Resort and fellow Boholano Candy Cumayas, the 2013 Miss HNU Personality titleholder, I also happen to know Eva (pronounced as Ava) Psychee Patalinjug of Lapulapu City whom I first met during the Ms CVRAA 2008 Pageant. I am also silently rooting for her since her mom Atty. Liza Marie S. Patalinjug is a friend of mine  in Facebook

CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE BEAUTIFUL KIND

Ms CVRAA at 13 years old

I was there the first time Eva competed in a beauty pageant.

It was March 27, 2008 and Tagbilaran City was the host city for the annual Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet (CVRAA) where the Miss CVRAA Search is considered a centerpiece event

That same year, the annual regional pageant had expanded to include a search for Mr. CVRAA. Eva who represented Lapulapu City was a mere 13 year old girl that time but who already showed a hint and promise of stunning beauty.

Year 2008:Queen of the Night
I was the pageant emcee and before the night had ended, I was the one who announced to the audience that Eva was the 2008 Miss CVRAA titlist and had earned the right to represent Central Visayas in the forthcoming Mr. & Ms. Palarong Pambansa which she also won!

Winning the regional as well as the national pageant title made her an overnight sensation in Cebu as news and photos of her twin victories were splashed in Cebu newspapers

OF TIARAS & TITLES AND SASHES & STILLETOES

Eva has been joining pageants as a way of gaining & honing her confidence and as a way of polishing her interpersonal skills. It was also to acquire more experiences and improve her catwalk and stage projection. She also credits Jonas Borces for the mentorship & guidance.

Aside from her Ms CVRAA and Ms Palarong Pambansa titles, she was also Miss Mandaue 2013 2nd RU and this year’s Miss Cebu 1st Runner Up.

Entering the final round as heavy favorite to win the Miss Cebu crown after sweeping practically all of the special awards, she settled for the runner up position to the dismay of her many fans but she downplays it by emphasizing that winning is a matter of destiny, luck and timing.

The Last Two in Miss Cebu 2014

Her being voted by fellow candidates as Miss Friendship during the same pageant confirmed my educated guess that she is indeed a nice and well- mannered lady who was brought up well by parents and mentors.

ACCOMPLISHED GIRL

Eva is gifted not only in the looks department but also in academics. She graduated as Class Valedictorian during her elementary and high school years.

She is also good in table tennis and won a gold medal for taekwondo during her high school years.

In between her studies and athletic days, she became a member of the Models Association of Cebu (MAC).

She was also elected as Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairperson of Brgy. Pajo, Lapu-lapu City and was also a member of CDU’s student body.

Last April 17, she graduated with a BS Nursing degree from Cebu Doctors University. She is currently reviewing for the nursing licensure examinations.

EARLY FRONTRUNNER STATUS

This early, she is already being mentioned by pageant sites and blogs (mine included) as one of the girls to beat in the national finals of the 2014 Mutya ng Pilipinas set on August 8 at the Solaire Resort & Casino.

Six Official Bets for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014
Looks like the winning streak of Cebuanas will continue after all.

Will she follow the footsteps of fellow Cebuanas Razzini Gomez and Dione Gomez who also won back-to-back victories for the Philippines in the Miss Tourism International Pageants?

Miss Philippines Is Miss Tourism International 2013

Twenty year old Angeli Dione Gomez from Bohol's neighboring province of Cebu capped the Philippines' impressive and overwhelming year in international pageantry when she was crowned Miss Tourism International, in a pageant held on New Year’s Eve in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

She bested a record field of 59 candidates since the pageant debuted in 1994

The 20-year-old Miss Gomez was the third Filipina to win the title, after fellow Cebuana Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez who crowned her during the pageant, and Maria Esperanza Manzano, who won in 2000.

Miss Gomez bested a record-number of 59 candidates. It was the largest participation since the inaugural pageant in Kuching, Sarawak, in 1994.

Gomez is the third Filipina to win the Miss Tourism International crown, which is now a back-to-back win with Rizzini Alexis Gomez also a Cebuana, who won the same crown last year.

Miss Tourism International was won by Maria Esperanza Manzano last 2000. With three crowns under its belt, the Philippines now leads the Miss Tourism International tally board for most crowns won. India and Poland follows both on second place with 2 crowns each.

The eldest of the three daughters of Dr. Albert Gomez, a pediatrician, and Gwendolyn Barbas Gomez, a businesswoman, of Toledo City, Cebu, Miss Gomez, won as Toledo City’s Festival Queen, was Reyna ng Aliwan 2012, and was runner-up in the Miss Resorts World Manila 2012.

She finished high school at B.R.I.G.H.T. Academy and majored in film at International Academy of Film and Television in Mactan, Cebu

The Philippines' latest addition to its roster of international beauty queens will be tasked as a traveling ambassador in promoting informal international relations between countries to spread the message of peace, goodwill, and friendship.
