2006 Miss Bohol Intl Highlights

Fourteen beauty delegates of Boholano lineage from all over the country and from around the world who were competing for the prestigious beauty title started arriving on the weekend leading to Coronation Night

After the registration, fittings and briefing, they immediately plunged into a hectic but exciting schedule of activities that were crammed in one week.

The pre- pageant events included the Grand TBTK 2006 Parade, Poolside Swimsuit Presentation @ Panglao Island Nature Resort, Talent Night @ Bohol Tropics Resort, courtesy calls, BCCTV appearance, FM radio tour & rigid rehearsals for the pageant night

Maya Calope Galvan, the reigning Miss Bohol International who won in 2003,  was a stunning beauty of Mexican and Filipino lineage. Miss Galvan represented the Tagbilaranons of Northern California (TANOCAL)

the first ever Miss Bohol International is Chan Cajegas. She won in 1999
She is shown in the pic with hubby Raymund Casabal

The girls had their first official appearance at the Panglao Island Nature Resort thru the kindness of hotel & mall owners Fred & Barbara Ong

Mediamen from Tagbilaran City & Cebu were there to cover the event. Two of the candidates couldn't make it.

The Chocolate Hills Lady Jaycees were the official presenters in cooperation with TownCrier Advertising, event organizers

The Coronation Night opened with a spectacular and colorful National Costume Parade & Introduction of Candidates and featured the HNU Diwanag Dance Theatre and Cultural Troupe.

Cathy Remperas was declared Best in National Costume while Judith Chatto was Miss Congeniality

The powerhouse Board of Judges chaired by then Manila Mayor Hon. Lito Atienza had the following members:

Waiting for the girls to be interviewed
First to be interviewed is Loida Lagonoy

The girls then had a brief chit chat with the emcee before giving their impressions on a picture flashed on the wide screen. Of course, the girls who grew up in the U.S. and Canada had the upper hand in this segment.

Two ladies stood out in this segment. First on my list would be Judith Galang who was very engaging, candid and relaxed during the entire interview.

Judith Galang of Paramus, New Jersey
During the "Describe the Picture on the Wide Screen segment" Judith, who traces her roots to Carmen, Bohol beamed when images of Bohol's iconic tourist attraction, the Chocolate Hills, were shown on the screen.

By the way, I committed a gaffe when I introduced her as Judith Chatto! I almost wilted in embarrassment when she ribbed me about it onstage but she put me at ease immediately for she said it in a truly gracious and light- hearted manner

She gave a very touching one- liner on tracing one's roots and punctuated it with the perfect example: her dad who's from Carmen, the area where most of the Chocolate Hills can be found!

The other girl would be Gayle Marielle Pizarras Ramirez who represented the Tagbilaranons of Toronto, Canada. Who can forget her giggle when she found out that Jerome Sala was in the audience?

with Gayle Ramirez of  Toronto, Canada: Witty repartee & engaging conversation

Cathy Remperas was declared Best in Swimsuit and voted Miss Photogenic. Nicole Sumobodobila of TANOCAL won Miss SMB corporate award

Cathy Remperas in a Maximiel Tallo original is Best in Filipiniana.

Kathy Lynn Gaviola Atuel, a certified beauty & brains, (at the time of the pageant, she was already a Licensed Medical technologist and a Level III Medical student at the Cebu Doctors University) was picked by pageant experts as one of the favorites to win the crown but to the shock of many, she didn't advance to the final round

Two years later, she would be proclaimed as 1st RU to Sian Maynard in the very prestigious Miss Cebu Pageant, the highlight of the annual Sinulog Festival

Kathy Lynn's official head shot for Miss Cebu 2008 Pageant

Kathy Lynn also took and passed the Licensure Board Exams for Physicians, yes, she is a doctor but for the meantime, her profession has to take a sidestep as she fulfills her dream of travelling around the world as a Quatar Airways flight attendant.

Kathy Lynn, by the way, is from Ubay, Bohol

Rich Asuncion had it all; beauty, brains and breeding but for some inexplicable reason, she was shut out from the Final Round.

Her exclusion from the Magic Five was one of the shockers that night

The Talent Competition was the highlight of a Benefit Dinner held at the Sandugo Ballroom of Bohol Tropics Resort. Right after the event, the girls were whisked off for an appearance at the SMB Night held at the Club Atmosphere of MetroCentre Hotel

Cathy Remperas and Rich Asuncion were managed by the same handler during the Miss Bohol International Pageant 2006 Edition. Both ladies would later tread parallel tracks

Cathy would become an ABS CBN Pinoy Big Brother Housemate in Oct 2009 while Rich would be chosen as First Princess in GMA 7's talent search "Starstruck" and place as 2009 Bb. Pilipinas 1st Runner Up and Miss Talent

Back in 1979, a lovely lady from Loboc, Bohol won 1st RU and was chosen as Miss Lux in the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant and thus became the first Boholana to place in said pageant.

Her name? Perla Salig

Thirty years later, another Boholana, Rich Asuncion, equalled Perla's feat when she also  placed as 1st RU in the 2009 edition of the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant.

Another Boholana beauty Taina Manigque, a member of the exclusive Triumph Court of Fashion, was a Top Fifteen Finalist and Miss Lux Awardee in the 1985 edition of the pageant

2008 Miss Bohol Sandugo: Joy Marie Maglajos

It was Friday, July 18, 2008 and inside the refurbished Bohol Cultural Center, there was palpable excitement in the air.

Of course, it was understandable since the annual search for Bohol’s fairest had a three year hiatus thus giving Anna Maris Igpit, Miss Bohol 05, the longest reign ever since the pageant was renamed Miss Bohol Sandugo.

Naturally, pageant fanatics were so eager and curious to find out who will fill the big shoes left by Ms. Igpit, the first Boholana to win a Binibini crown when she was proclaimed the 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World

It was a year of outstanding girls also who came from all over the province

TRIVIA : The 2008 pageant has the distinction of being the first Miss Bohol pageant to be held in an air- conditioned venue.

The 2008 edition of Miss Bohol Sandugo was to be the first of four consecutive years of hosting the pageant for your blogger.

The last time I hosted it prior to 2008 was back in 2002. In between, I had the opportunity to host the 2003 and 2006 editions of Miss Bohol International

The brilliant and very talented Alexis Cadelina of Jagna choreographed and directed the pageant for the first time. He has been handling the pageant for five consecutive years already and still counting

2005 Miss Bohol Sandugo & 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World Anna Maris Arcay Igpit

during her triumphant homecoming
Fourteen lovely ladies competed for the crown and they were:

AUBREY JUMAMOY - Ms. Image Marketing, CHANDRINA ELLUISKA SCHREURS - Ms. SK Bohol Federation, DONNA MARICEL CARDINO - Ms. ICM (Island City Mall), JANE IRIS RACHO - Ms. Balilihan, JOY MARIE MAGLAJOS - Ms. Catigbian, LOVELY LIGONES - Ms. Tagbilaran, LUPA EMELIA PINAT - Ms. YCY Marketing,

So- called pageant experts picked Miss Talibon, Miss SK Bohol Federation, Miss ICM, Miss Tagbilaran and Miss Catigbian as the girls to beat

During the Talent Night, the candidate from Trinidad outshone the other ladies with her showstopping balitaw performance. Maria Angeli Cielo Cajes would always be remembered as having the best talent performance ever in Miss Bohol history.

Her performance was such a hit that she was invited to present her talent at the Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant the following year. Her performance which evoked nostalgic reminiscences reportedly moved some of the balikbayans in the audience to tears

Check the link below for her award- winning Talent performance

BACKSTAGE: Ms ICM, Ms SK, Ms Carmen, Ms Alburquerque,
Ms Catigbian, Ms Balilihan & Ms Baclayon
The Final Five were Miss Talibon, Miss Catigbi-an, Miss Trinidad, Miss ICM and Miss SK Bohol Federated.  UPSETS & SURPRISES The upset of the night was the non- inclusion of Miss Tagbilaran as finalist. Miss Trinidad who was not among the favorites was a pleasant surprise in the Top Five. She deserved her finalist placement by virtue of her outstanding talent, charming personality, confidence, engaging interview and communication skills. If only she were a little bit taller, she would have made the Top Three.

Miss Talibon Michelle Latras was highly favored to win the crown going to the final round. After all, she already clinched the Best in Interview, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown special awards. Days earlier during the Press Presentation, she was also voted by the media as the Darling of the Press

The gorgeous half- Dutch beauty from Garcia- Hernandez Miss SK Federated Chandrina Elluiska Schreurs was named Best in Festival Costume and was the recipient of three other special awards

Each of the finalists then picked the name of the judge who would be asking her the final question.  After the interviews, the judges then ranked the ladies based on how they answered the final question with equal consideration given to poise, personality projection, warmth and stage presence
L-R: Donna Cardino, Chandrina Schreurs, Joy Maglajos, Michelle Latras, Cielo Cajes
L- R: 1st RU Miss SK Chandrina Schreurs, MBS 08 Ms Catigbian Joy Maglajos, 2nd RU Ms Talibon Michelle Latras
Before the night ended, Joy Marie Maglajos of Catigbian emerged as the new Miss Bohol Sandugo 2008 crowned by Miss Bohol Sandugo 2005 Anna Maris Igpit.

Miss SK Bohol Federated Chandrina Elluiska Schreurs , a half- Dutch & half Filipina beauty was 1st runner-up while Miss Talibon Michelle Latras was 2nd runner-up

Donna Maricel Cardino, Miss ICM and one of the Top Five Finalists first joined the Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant in 2004.
Aside from being selected as one of the Top Ten Semifinalists from a field of 24 captivating beauties that year, she was also voted by the press and official photographers as Miss Photogenic and chosen Best in Swimsuit.
Her pageant experience and modeling stints helped her a lot for she would later on be crowned Miss Mandaue 2011 and represent Central Visayas in the national finals for Miss World Philippines 2011
Miss Tagbilaran Lovely Ligones would later join Miss Fitrum, a nationwide beauty search in a noontime tv show of ABS CBN and qualify in the Grand Finals

Joy Marie Maglajos, daughter of Mario Maglajos and Emerlita Marimon, finished her BS Computer Engineering in HNU year 2006

Joy Maglajos during the Pre- Pageant

that's me interviewing the newly- crowned Miss Bohol Sandugo 2008
She was selected by her municipality as the town’s candidate after winning the 2006 Miss Katigbawan Festival Search which served as the highlight of the Katigbawan Festival which takes place every 3rd week of June of each year in celebration of the foundation day of Catigbian every June 17.

Joy Marie's kababayans led by Catigbia-an's very supportive mayor, the Hon. Roberto Salinas popularly known as "BertSals" and the town's first lady Ma. Nerissa, witnessed her coronation as Bohol's fairest. Truly, a very proud moment for Joy Marie

Her spontaneity, refreshing candor and strong personality projection plus her innate grace and elegance won for her the crown in a very competitive pageant year

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT When asked for her most memorable moment during the pageant, Joy said it was winning the Best Gown Design Award.

It meant so much to her for she herself designed the classic black evening gown with assistance from her handler Louie

Presently, she is based in Manila where she has been connected with F2 Logistics Phils Inc for the past three years

Regarding her lovelife, she mentions that she is in a six year relationship.

Do we hear wedding bells? Joy replied with an enigmatic “ Sooner than you think Raul”
"Joy, I would be more than glad to emcee your wedding reception"
It is a pleasure to have met and known Miss Joy Marie Maglajos, the second Catigbianon lady to win the Miss Bohol Sandugo crown after Jenifer Ejoc who won the crown back in 1999

My warmest congratulations also to the Miss Bohol Sandugo Batch of 2008. You are all winners and you are truly the pride of Bohol and you deserve the recognition

Good luck on your future endeavors! God bless always Special Thanks to Omie Auza for my exquisite Barong Tagalog For the Complete List of Miss Bohol Titleholders, click the link below:
