Dining at Astoria Bohol's Pamana Restaurant

Aside from the Bibingka de Astoria which Your Roving Eye and scores of foodies swear to be the best bibingka in Bohol, Astoria Resort’s Pamana Restaurant has an array of the most inventive and certified bestsellers in its international and Filipino cuisine from appetizers to soup to main entrees.
Your Roving Eye, Beth Suarez & Mrs. Vel Ranoco
We had a chance to sample three of the restaurant’s bestsellers & specialties:

We started with their CHICKEN BINAKOL SOUP, chicken soup simmered in coconut water, lemon grass, ginger & choice spices. Served in a freshly opened coconut shell (bakol) and with pita bread. The best thing about the soup is you can scoop out the slivers of coconut meat and have it with the soup!

ADOBONG GUSOK (Ribs) SA PINYA, pork ribs slowly simmered in tasty adobo sauce and fresh pineapple. The sauce is surprisingly sweet and tangy and can actually be mixed with the scoop of rice!

TORTANG BOHOLANO, ground pork omelet, thinly- sliced onions & potatoes topped with native Bohol chorizo and all fried with the boiled eggplant!

In Memory of Suzette Auza Garcia: Beautiful Pride of Talibon

Suzette Garcia: A Candle in the Wind

The lovely Suzette Garcia has gone ahead to the Great Beyond. As Binibining Talibon 1992, Suzette represented her municipality in the 1992 Miss Bohol Pageant where her beautiful angelic face , charm & wit made her one of the favorites to win the crown.

True enough, she emerged 2nd RU to Celevel Ranoco of Jagna and she was also selected as Best in Filipina Costume.

Suzette who has been based for years in Dubai succumbed to complications from lung cancer and left behind an only daughter Reina.  She was in her early 40’s.

Dear blog readers, do spare a minute of silence for the eternal repose of Suzette who is now safely in the warm embrace of our Creator in heaven where she is now free from pain and sorrow.

L-R: Tagbilaran 1st RU, Jagna Ms Bohol, Talibon 2nd RU

Miss Bohol 1992 with outgoing Miss Bohol 1991 Recelle Adlaon,
Gov David Tirol & First Lady Amalia Tirol
July 25, 1992, DWCT Gym

Suzette will always be remembered as a pride of Talibon and one of the most beautiful Boholanas to grace the Miss Bohol stage.

Goodbye Dear Ole Holy Name

I chanced upon the ongoing demolition of the original Holy Name University based in downtown Tagbilaran a week ago. It was a heart- wrenching scene to see my beloved school in her present state. I took the photos from the H. Grupo St. entrance gate to the gym.

HNU Main took a big blow during the Oct 15, 2013 temblor that compromised the structural integrity of the main campus in Gallares Street hence the decision to relocate to its Janssen Heights Campus.

Your Roving Eye in front of dear ole Holy Name

The beloved gym is no more. The gym where scores of commencement exercises were held, where Bohol’s biggest events took place and where thousands of students like me honed and sharpened their skills and talents will now exist in our minds, in photos and in our hearts.

But fret not. For there would always be a rainbow after the rain. It’s all for the best.

 From the BQ Mall driveway

My dear HNU Main Campus in Gallares St., you would always be etched in our collective memories. Forever.
