A Boholana Is Crowned Miss Leyte Pintados 2006

Did you know that a Boholana was once crowned as the fairest maiden in the entire province of Leyte?

It happened when Sheina Marie Cubillo of Calape won the title of Miss Pintados Leyte 2006 in Tacloban City, Leyte

Sheina Marie Cubillo had already competed and won in numerous beauty pageants prior to winning the most prestigious beauty title in Leyte

Miss Pintados Leyte is the glamorous highlight of the annual Pintados Festival in Leyte and it is the equivalent of our very own Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant

BACK TO BACK FOR BOHOL

The following year, another Boholana, ToniVi Salazar succeeded Sheena Marie Cubillo as Miss Pintados Leyte. Incidentally, another Boholana, Mayumi Lugod of UNTV was in the Panel of Judges

2003 MISS BOHOL SANDUGO 2ND RU

She was crowned Miss Calape 2003and emerged 2nd Runner Up and Best in Swimsuit during the 2003 Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant

It was the same pageant where Anna Maris Igpit was first seen by pageant watchers prior to winning the 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World title

US- BASED NURSE

Sheina Marie Cubillo is a registered nurse who is presently based in the United States where she is practicing her profession

Prior to her present job in California, USA, she was a Clinical Instructor at the College of Nursing in the University of Bohol

Solid proof that she is the complete package: Beautiful & Brainy Boholana

Eva Santos Makes The Round of 16

Eva & Junji await the final decision
EVA SANTOS MAKES THE CUT

Boholana Eva De Los Santos became the 8th and final contestant from the first batch of contestants to make it to the Round of 16.

It was an exciting down- the- wire finish for Eva  during the Aug 25 Live Shows for The Voice of the Philippines held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of New Resorts World

After Morrisette Amon was revealed as having garnered the highest percentage share of text votes from Team Sarah, Eva & Junji together with their families & fans including this blogger anxiously awaited as Coach Sarah made up her mind who to save.

In the end, Coach Sarah picked the Boholana warbler to advance to the Round of 16. The cameras then zoomed in to the De Los Santos Family for their reaction.

De Los Santos Family Whoops It Up!
It was a touching emotional moment especially seeing the cameras zoom in on her daughter Monique who burst into tears

THE VOICE LIVE SHOWS Group A

The evening started with all the contestants and the four coaches opening the competition with a spectacular production number

Twelve of the 24 semifinalists or three for each of the four coaches were spotlighted during last Sunday's next elimination round as they gave it their best to impress and get the nod of the text- voting public as well as that of their respective coaches

The competition then followed with all 12 performing songs that they and their coaches chose

Representing their respective teams in their order of performances were:

Darryl Shy, Radha and RJ Dela Fuente for Coach Lea Salonga

Cora Dela Cruz, Thor Dulay and Jessica Reynoso for Coach Apl de Ap

Lee Grane ,Myk Perez and Talia Reyes for Coach Bamboo.

Eva Delos Santos, Junji Arias and Morrisette Amon for coach Sarah Geronimo

It was with bated breath when our very own Eva Gulle De Los Santos finally performed onstage.

She was such a delight to see and hear her as she sang Carole King's So Far Away during her performance even as she showcased her virtuosity with the piano

Afterwards, Leah Salonga commented that what she liked with the performance was the start and the ending.

She also gave an instructive advice on controlling one's performance especially when hitting the high notes and sticking to the musical arrangement "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should"

UNIQUE VOTING SYSTEM

The unique voting scheme for the Live Shows allowed viewers to send in their votes only during commercial breaks – I believe this is a first on Philippine TV. The voting for each team opened after the performances of the three artists and closed after one full commercial break.

The poll results for all the teams was announced at the end of the show.

The artist from each team who got the highest percentage of votes was then announced and thus got an automatic save. The coach then had to make the difficult decision of choosing who between his or her two remaining artists gets to continue in their journey and who gets to pack up and go home

MIXED VOTING RESULTS

FOR TEAM LEA

Voters picked the very soft- spoken and simple Baguio musician Darryl Shy over early front-runner, former Kulay member Radha

FOR TEAM BAMBOO

The voting public picked Myk Perez over another early favorite, singer Lee Grane

FOR TEAM APL

Early fave Thor Dulay topped the voting as predicted

FOR TEAM SARAH

L-R: Eva Santos, Junji Arias & Morrisette Amon
Theater actress Morissette Amon got an overwhelming 57% of the total text votes for Team Sarah. Eva and Junji got a combined total of 43%

Let us vote for Eva in the Round of 16 please

GOLDEN MOMENT IN TIME LAST NIGHT:

Did you see how our Golden Girl Eva blew the competition out last night with her mind- blowing performance of One Moment in Time?

It was a goosebump experience for me.

A very proud moment for Bohol and her family even as the TV cameras were zooming in on her very telegenic daughter Monique de los Santos and gorgeous son, the world-class karatedo gold medalist OJ De Los Santos

Anyway, here's another article on Eva Santos from Wikipedia

Eva delos Santos (born October 1, 1962) is a Filipino entrepreneur, housewife, and singer from Cebu who is currently a contestant on the first season of The Voice of the Philippines.
Her daughter, Monique delos Santos, auditioned before her but did not advance to the battle rounds
Before she became a mother and an entrepreneur, music had been part of Eva's life.
Born and raised in Bohol, the young Eva moved to Cebu City for college, where she began performing.
During her glory days of singing, she was able to perform around the country and in some major cities around Asia.
In late 1980's, she fell in love and got married. Eva decided to put music in the backseat to give way to her life's new challenges as a wife and as a mother.
As this mother reaches her golden years, Eva wanted to give herself a chance to continue the music where she left it off.
She joined the competition not only for the chance of making her dreams come true, but to inspire people her age that they can still dream new dreams, or awaken passion in hiatus.

Bohol, let us unite tonight for Eva Santos

Support Eva Santos in The Voice Live Show

EVA IN THE LIVE SHOW ON AUG 25

Our very own Eva Santos will battle it out this Saturday, August 25 during the 1st Live Show episode to stay in contention for ABS CBN's The Voice of the Philippines competition

Your prayers and TEXT votes will spell the difference

TRUE- BLUE BOHOLANA

Eva whose maiden name is Eva Gulle was born and raised in Tejero, Jagna, Bohol.

Her grade school years were spent at Jagna Central Elementary School.

She graduated as High School Class Salutatorian at the Colegio de la Medalla Milagrosa.

At around this time, Eva had acquired a local celebrity tag in her hometown after winning the nationwide Girl Scout of the Philippines Singing Contest

FROM BOHOL OR FROM CEBU? WHICH IS WHICH?

Eva & Daughter Monique interviewed by TV host Robi Domingo

Eva's roots especially where she is from has been the subject of speculation and discussion among blog readers especially when she is introduced to TV and studio audiences as Eva Santos from Cebu

To set the record straight, Eva is from Bohol.

Contrary to what some has said who has seen her on TV, she has never denied that she is from Bohol and in fact, during the series of eliminations, she always introduces herself as from Bohol but presently residing in Cebu City.

Eva Santos has been based in Cebu City since the 80's but she always visits Bohol especially during fiesta time in Jagna every September

I believe this is part of the marketing strategy of ABS CBN to introduce Eva as from Cebu since Bohol already has Kim Mainit

Rest assured that Eva Santos is, was and would always be Boholana.

IMPRESSIVE BIO

Eva has been consistently wowing everyone ever since she started singing onstage. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Education with Cum Laude honors from Cebu Normal University, she taught for four years.

First, at the Sacred Heart School for Boys then to Cebu International School

WORLD- CLASS PERFORMER

The high point of her singing career was having her original composition "You & Me" being selected as the Philippines' official entry to the 1992 Midnight Sun International Song Festival held annually in Lahti, Finland

She sang her own composition during the international songfest and before the night was over, she was declared 2nd Runner Up from among scores of representatives from around the world

MARITAL BLISS OVER STARDOM

during the Battle Round

She could have parlayed that victory into a lucrative singing career in the entertainment industry especially with the offers that awaited her when she returned home from Finland

She opted to turn her back from the music industry when she decided to devote her full- time to being a wife and mother

REASONS FOR JOINING

Now that the kids have grown up, Eva is itching to make a comeback in the entertainment scene not so much for the accolades or the fame for she has loads of that already.

It's more of the artist and the performer in her . Music has always been her passion

But for this blogger, it's more than the passion and artistry in her. Eva Santos stands as an inspiration for everyone. That nothing is impossible in the pursuit of your goals and your dreams regardless of one's age and station in life

Making the Top 24 is an achievement already.

Let's help Eva make history for Bohol in the Voice of the Philippines

Way to go Eva!

Here's Why Megan Young Is Miss World Philippines 2013

 OVERWHELMING FAVORITE

Kapamilya & Star Magic artist Megan Young confirmed her frontrunner status when she was crowned the 2013 Miss World Philippines in a glittering coronation ceremony just a few hours ago at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City

She was installed by pageant fans and pageant websites as the girl to beat the moment she showed up for the screening of Miss World Philippines candidates

Gifted with a near- perfect facial beauty, she also had the confidence, stage presence, media savvy and excellent communication skills courtesy of her years of experience & exposure as a TV & movie personality. She was also trained by beauty queen mentor Jonas Gaffud's Aces & Queens beauty camp, the same group that gave us Shamcey Supsup & Janine Tugonon

Her training and preparedness was very evident in the Evening Gown & Swimsuit Competitions where she wowed everyone with her stunning beauty, elegance and regal stance

She was supposed to join the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant earlier this year but issues with a sexy photo shoot for a magazine put an end to her dream of representing the country in the Miss Universe Pageant

HARVEST OF SPECIAL TITLES & CORPORATE AWARDS

Prior to winning the 2013 Miss World Philippines crown during pageant night, Miss Young harvested eight of the special awards including:

Miss Reducin
Miss Olay
Miss Laguna World
Miss Bold and Glamorous by Revlon
Miss Figlia and
Miss Bench Body

She was also adjudged Best in Fashion Runway and declared Miss Sports by Fila.

These two important awards which affirms her runway modeling skills & athletic prowess will come in handy when she competes in the Miss World Pageant for there are Fast Track Challenges that would automatically give a semifinal spot to the challenge winners.
Two of these Fast Track Challenges are, you guessed it, Best Model and Sports Challenge Winner

Breathtakingly Beautiful in Blue
A WINDFALL OF PRIZES

Aside from winning the coveted plum plus One Million Pesos Cash prize, merchandise and a talent management contract, she will represent the country in the Miss World pageant to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia next month.

EXCELLENT MOVE FROM MWP ORGANIZERS

Meagan's well- earned victory was rejoiced by avid pageant fans.

Shortly after her coronation as Miss World Philippines, pageant websites has installed as one of the girls who would likely place in the international beauty competition

The pageant results is a wise business and publicity move from MWP. It will be mutually beneficial for MWP and Megan Young

Aside from crowning a very deserving winner, the Miss World pageant will surely be followed closely not only by Kapuso fans but also by Kapamilya fans since our candidate is a gorgeous celebrity

Translation: more publicity for the pageant and more advertising revenues

MISS UNIVERSE VERSUS MISS WORLD

It is common knowledge among Filipinos that there is no love lost between Pinoys and Miss World.

Miss Universe has always been ingrained in Pinoy pop culture ever since Gloria Diaz gave us our first Miss Universe in 1969. Our love affair with Miss Universe was cemented when Margie Moran gave us our second Miss U crown in 1973

Hopefully, as Megan Young steps foot in Indonesia for the Miss World Pageant barely 10 days from now, Miss World will become a byword among Pinoys.

Remember when Ruffa competed in the 1993 Miss World Pageant in Sun City? Pinoys got curious with Miss World and temporarily set aside their Miss U loyalty. Ruffa eventually placed as 2nd Princess that year

Good luck to Meagan on her journey towards the 2013 Miss World crown.

Will she be destined to be the first ever Filipina to win the elusive Miss World crown?

Let's keep our fingers crossed

ELUSIVE MISS WORLD CROWN

The Miss World crown is the only beauty title that has eluded the Philippines. We already have two Miss Universe winners, four Miss International crowns and one Miss Earth

Evangeline Pascual almost won the crown in 1973. There was a tie between Evangeline and Miss USA Marjorie Wallace during the final round. In the tie- breaker, American actor Gregory Peck reportedly gave the deciding vote to Miss USA.

When Miss USA Marjorie Wallace was stripped of her title and crown because of her failure to fulfill her obligations and duties as titleholder, Evangeline was offered the title as 1st Runner Up. To everyone's surprise, she refused because of her principles

Had Evangeline accepted the title, 1973 would have been the year when both the Miss Universe and the Miss World titleholders came from the same country. Remember, Margie Moran won her Miss Universe crown in 1973

In recent years, the closest we had to winning was in 2011 when Gwendolyn Ruais placed as 1st Princess to Miss Venezuela.

Will Lady Luck favor the Philippines this year?

Miss World which is considered as very unpredictable as far as pageant results are concerned just might give us our first title and that should be a good reason to celebrate

DRAGON BOAT'S NEWEST HEROES

These newest Boholano sporting heroes have proven themselves already in the national scene when the placed in the Final Four of the very competitive 2nd Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat International Club Crew Challenge last summer

What made their victory even sweeter was the fact that they did it in front of their fellow Boholanos. Placing in the Top Four effectively silenced the critics and skeptics alike

Right now our Boholano dragon paddlers need more than just our moral support and Divine Intervention. Any assistance that can help defray some of their expenses for their training and competition are most welcome

Kim Mainit of Bohol Battles It Out In The Voice

Kim Mainit
BOHOLANO VOICES

We have not one but two Boholanos in the ongoing Voice of the Philippines talent search telecast over ABS CBN's Channel 2 every weekend

Both are as different as Night and Day.

One is an established quintessential diva who put her promising singing career on hold in order to be a full- time mom and wife.

The other is a bubbly teener whose sunny disposition never fails to brighten even the most gloomy days

VOICE # 1 KIM MAINIT

First to be featured is Kim Mainit. Kimpoy to his friends and family, Kim graduated from HNU Grade School before enrolling at Holy Spirit School for his secondary education.

Sixteen year old Kim was all set to proceed to college after his high graduation last summer but all that has changed for the meantime when he qualified for the Voice of the Philippines

He is the son of Nilo & Eleuteria Mainit who traces his roots in Anda, Bohol

During his brief visit to Bohol after the intense Blind Auditions and Battle Rounds, he paid a visit to his family in Anda

BLIND AUDITIONS

The original Kim herself, Ms Lea Salonga, was the first AND only coach to turn around for Kim but that was more than enough considering who Lea is. Kim ended up being the 13th and last to make it to Team Lea

Overall, the coaches were all praises for this Boholano sensation

Kim Mainit sang “Nobody's Perfect” song by Jessie J on the Blind Audition Episode 12 Sunday, July 21, 2013.

BATTLE ROUNDS

For the Battle Round, Team Lea's Kimpoy had to face off with teammate Taw Mohammad of Iloilo as they showcased their vocal prowess with a slow arrangement of the dance hit “Without You” by David Guetta and Usher.

It was a tough moment for Coach Lea who had to agonize over her final choice

In the end, she Coach Lea picked Kim even as she qualified that her decision ultimately was based on WHAT the competition was looking for AND for the INSPIRATION that he would provide
