Hudyaka sa Panglao 2017 Highlights

This year’s Hudyaka sa Panglao Festival exceeded almost everyone’s expectations. From the nightly carnival rides & varied entertainment fare that brought excitement & glee to the townsfolk down to the many invitations from friends in this tropical paradise.
Ed & Cely Chongbian with Fiel Gabin
  Marianito Luspo & Val Sandiego
Buffet tables groaned with delectable fiesta fare and of course, the obligatory selfies and beso beso. Beyond the pomp and pageantry, the festival which fused music and colors into one joyous activity was the Panglaoanon devotees’ way of paying homage and thanksgiving to their patron saint for blessings received through his intercession, by way of celebration.

Your Roving Eye, Mike Quintia & wife Nikki join Cong. Aris Aumentado,
Nekolai Montero- Cerna & hubby Liplip Cerna
As Panglao progressed through the years from a humble and sleepy fishing and farming community into a bustling ecotourism community, the festival answers the need for the town to showcase its way of life & rich cultural heritage to the visitors and tourists who flocked to Bohol tourism’s crowning jewel.
PANGLAO PRIDE: Catherine Tabaniag & Marissa Cloma
The highways and the side streets leading to the town plaza and along the parade route were closed to traffic. Panglaonanons, revelers and visitors alike had to brave the heat and glare of the sun just to witness and participate in the merrymaking.

All ten barangays of Panglao sent dance contingents and competed for prizes and bragging rights in both street dance competition and the focal/ ritual competition. Ricky Ballesteros, Sinulog Foundation, Inc. Executive Director, was the chair of the judges for "Hudyaka sa Panglao" 2017 street dancing competition and Marianito Luspo for the focal/ ritual competition.

Thousands jampacked the town plaza for Hudyaka 2017

Mayor Montero received the award during the 5th Annual Regional Competitiveness Summit two weeks ago at the PICC in Manila.

Today is My Blog's 5th Year Anniversary!

Today is September 13 and my blogspot marks its 5th year anniversary. Today, we also hit the million mark for number of views. It's a twin milestone for someone who tried his hand on writing for fun and adventure. What an adventure it has been for the past five years.

Five years ago, I vividly remember describing myself as a very unlucky person who has been dealt some of life's most devastating blows both personal and professional during the last few years. Misfortune after misfortune have hounded me every now and then. Today, I take back what I wrote back in 2012.

I realize how lucky I am to have been given the chance to bounce back and to gain a strong foothold on where I am now. Thank you to the people who have been there to help me and to make me believe in myself again.

Yes, it took me quite a while to be on steady grounds. Instead of moping down and putting the blame on others, I tried to find ways so I could cope and come to terms with the aftermath.

This blog has been a saving grace after all. It has been a reliable coping mechanism that helped me to regain my bearings and get a grip on myself.
Hitting the million mark on my fifth year anniversary! How doubly fulfilling!

Thank you to everyone who have made Bohol’s Roving Eye a part of their online activity,

Double cheers!

Meet Klea Kathrina Uy

 Klea Kathrina Uy
Make way for the lovely and leggy Klea Kathrina Uy who caught Your Roving Eye’s attention when she forayed into the world of pageantry a couple of years ago.

Klea emerged as one of the Top Seven finalists in the Miss Silka Bohol 2015 pageant.

Not bad for a pageant newbie who joined for the experience and because of the constant prodding from friends and family.

Last year, she was crowned Mutya sa Cogon which qualified her as an official candidate in the 2017 Mutya sa Tagbilaran Pageant. She may not have barged into the winners’ circle but she gained a lot in terms of experience, insights as well as new friends.

Presently, the 20 year old who stands 5’ 7” is a BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management student of Holy Name University. For the past two years, she has been part of the CSG Executive Department as Secretary for Students Rights & Welfare then Secretary for External Affairs.

Currently, she is the Petty Cash Custodian of the CSG 9th Student Congress and is also Secretary of the Rotaract Club of Tagbilaran HNU Chapter

The self- confessed Spiderman fan also adores Winnie the Pooh. When asked what keeps her going in life, she quotes a line from Gwen Stacy “Don’t follow others’ trail, make your own trail”

That’s Klea Katrina for you!

Glyssa Perez is Miss World Philippines 2017 1st Princess

Eleven years after Anna Maris Igpit clinched the Bb Pilipinas- World crown, another Boholana gave a stellar performance in the country’s search for its Miss World representative.

Miss Bohol 2016 Glyssa Leiann Bingas Perez finished strongly as 1st RU in a competitive field of 35 lovely ladies during glittering ceremonies at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Glyssa Perez is named Miss World Philippines 2017 1st Princess
Prior to revealing the names of the Top 15 semifinalists was the announcement of the winners of the five Fast Track Challenges which gave the winners automatic tickets to the semis.  All fast track challenges were conducted weeks leading to the pageant night.

The fast track challenge winners were:

FAST TRACK CHALLENGE
WINNNERS
Miss FILA/Sports & Fitness
#3 Glyssa Leian Perez
Talent
#9 Winwyn Marquez
Bench Body/Beach Beauty
#9 Winwyn Marquez
Top Model
#32 Cynthia Thomalla
Multimedia Challenge
#15 Laura Lehmann

Candidate #3 Glyssa Perez was named the winner for Sports Challenge which was held at Victoria Sports Tower last August 17. The whole- day sports activities had the girls divided into five groups and prior to tackling the various sports activities that challenged their physical capacities, they had to come up with their group yells & cheers.

After getting the FILA/ Sports & Fitness award, Glyssa & the other fast track winners led 11 other girls into the top 15 where KC Montero engaged them in a casual chitchat to give the audience and the judges a glimpse into their personalities.

All the Fast Track Challenge winners made it to the final six
For the top ten Q & A, Glyssa got a “personal question”.

QUESTION: All your life your parents have taught you in school and in life, but what have you taught your parents?

ANSWER:
Living from a different country to the Philippines, one thing that I feel that I taught my parents is trust.  Because being the only girl in the family with three brothers, you could just imagine how protective they are.
As I said earlier, trust is what I taught my parents because they allow me to loop two countries because I’m so passionate about serving the community that I’m here standing in front of you all to do what I’m passionate about.
As predicted in an earlier blog , Glyssa did bring on her A- game and, with her impressive and heartfelt Q & A performance, she finished strongly as 1st Princess.
exuding grace and charm during the opening number
Her roles and responsibilities include appearances with the other MWP 2017 winners and should one of the crowned winners cannot fulfill their contractual obligations, Glyssa takes over.

Beauty runs in her bloodline and in fact, she and reigning 2016 Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Perez Medina are first cousins. She was crowned the 2014 Miss Philippines Australia where she represented the Visayas Association of Australia Inc.. In the same pageant, she  also won the Best in Filipiniana, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown special awards.

Year 2016 was memorable for Glyssa  After getting crowned as Miss Bohol 2016, she represented the province in Miss JCI Visayas and after winning the regional title, she went on to win the national title of Miss JCI Philippines as well.

Congratulations to Glyssa and to MWP franchise holder ALV of national director Arnold Vergafia & general manager Bessie Besana !
