AR Dela Serna of Bohol is the First Mister Supranational Philippines

 AR Dela Serna: Bohol's First
Ten years after Anna Maris Igpit became the first Boholana beauty to be crowned a Bb Pilipinas titleholder (she was Bb Pilipinas- World 2006) Alberto Rodulfo “AR” Yap Dela Serna, the son of Albert Dela Serna and former Pob. 2 Brgy. Captain Glorivic Dela Serna, made history as the first Boholano to win a national male pageant title.

AR was proclaimed the first Mister Supranational Philippines 2016 during the grand coronation gala of Misters of Filipinas held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City last weekend.

The paragon of drive, discipline & determination, Dela Serna was Mr. Photogenic and 1st Runner Up in last year’s edition of Misters of the Philippines when he decided to compete again. A stellar performance plus the advantage of experience proved to be the winning edge for the 22 year old and 6’ 1” tall Business Administration graduate from Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City
  Dela Serna: Debonaire. Dapper. Dashing.
From 27 official candidates from around the country and from overseas Filipino communities, the field was whittled down to the Final Fifteen before the six titleholders and two runners up were proclaimed.

Coincidentally, just like Anna Maris Igpit who competed for the Miss World 2006 crown in Poland, AR Dela Serna will represent the Philippines in the Mister Supranational Pageant on December 3 also in Poland.  Over 40 men from around the globe are expected to compete in the beautiful Polish city of Krynica-Zdrój. The inaugural search for Mister Supranational will be televised in over 30 countries and the winner will get 10,000 USD in cash plus a modeling contract in Europe.
RP's bets will leave for the international finals in Poland
Meanwhile, AR Dela Serna’s female counterpart, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2016 Joanna Eden will also fly to Krynica- Zdrój, Poland for the Miss Supranational 2016 edition which will have its coronation night on December 2.

Congratulations and good luck to you AR Dela Serna!

Miss Iran & Miss Israel in Miss Global 2016

It might sound like a worn- out cliché but it’s true that pageant girls do aspire for world peace. Take the case of the ongoing Miss Global 2016 Pageant.

Last September 17 & 18, a bevy of beauties from all corners of the globe converged in Bohol not only to visit its natural wonders and to sample the renowned warmth and hospitality of Boholanos but also to compete in the swimsuit preliminaries.

Your Roving Eye and Mr. Ric Obedencio, veteran newsman were given access to cover the girls’ swimsuit photo and video shoot at the spectacular Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol. We had the chance to get to know some of the girls including Miss Norway whose mom is from the neighboring island of Cebu.

The girls from Tunisia, Sri Lanka & Sweden who were in the pool of the host resort obliged us with a photo. Madagascar was such a pleasant & pretty lady who shared to us that she already posted about Bohol on her social media accounts.

It was the talked- about photo shoot of Danielle Celine Bouskila, 25, of Israel and Melika Razavi, 27, of Iran that proved to be the scenestealer. It was a sight to behold as the two Middle Eastern beauties gamely posed in their two- piece swimsuits.

Although we were not able to photograph them together as the crew had to work on a tight schedule, it was enough that the countries were able to declare a truce even if it was on the beauty pageant stage.

Now who said beauty pageants can’t be arenas for diplomacy, friendship and world peace?

Good luck and may the best lady win!

The Sand, Sea & Sun of Alona Beach, Panglao, Bohol & Miss Global 2016

It was a warm warm welcome indeed for the 2016 Miss Global candidates when they set foot on the province of Bohol last September 17. I am referring not only to the friendliness and hospitality of fellow Boholanos but also the sun, sea and sun of Panglao Island.

The girls were in the province for a quick tour around the Chocolate Hills & other tourist spots, do their swimsuit & video shoot and prepare for the swimsuit competition.

The girls were amazed with the beauty and splendor of Bohol especially the white sands of Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol.

Even before they left for the grand coronation night to be staged in Manila a couple of days from now, they have posted in FB, Twitter and Instagram about their Bohol visit!

Who Will Be Miss Global 2016?

Miss Global 2016 officially kicked off last September 14 with the Press Presentation held at the Crowne Plaza Galeria. Getting the nod of the media as Darling of the Press was host delegate Miss Philippines Camille CJ Hirro with Caitlynn Henry of Australia and Linnea Johansson of Sweden as 1st and 2nd Runners Up respectively.

The girls who impresses and wows the discriminating media during the press presentation usually take the lead from the get- go and all the way to the coronation night. Of course, a lot of factors can come into play as some of the hot favorites may fall by the wayside and some of the dark horses might gain momentum leading to the grand coronation night.

In the ongoing Miss Global 2016 Pageant currently hosted by the Philippines for the second straight year, the favorites of the press are leading the pack in the various pre- pageant activities.

If the results of two of the three important preliminary events are used to predict who will take it all on the grand coronation night, looks like we have three girls who are locked in for the big win!

Miss Philippines Camille Jensen Hirro, Miss Ecuador Angela Maritza Bonilla Zapata and Miss Australia Caitlynn Henry have already established themselves as the frontrunners for the crown currently held by Jessica Peart of Australia.

During the National Costume Competition held at the Heritage Hotel last Sept 16 , Miss Philippines emerged first in her eagle- inspired costume created by designer Edwin Uy. In second place was Miss Australia and third place went to Miss Ecuador.

Just two nights ago, the same three girls also bagged the top three places in the Swimsuit Competition held at the Henann Resort in Panglao, Bohol. Miss Ecuador outshone the field of 38 girls while Philippines and Australia placed second and third respectively.

Tomorrow night, a grand fashion show and the Evening Gown Competition sponsored by he Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines will conclude the preliminary events.

Who will be the epitome of class and elegance and be declared Best in Evening Gown? Will the same three girls get the top three spots? Or will another delegate spring a pleasant surprise?

What Happened During the Miss Global 2016 Swimsuit Competition

Miss Global 2016 concluded its swimsuit competition at the grand ballroom of a resort in Panglao, Bohol
 L-R: Philippines, Ecuador, Australia

Angela Bonilla of Ecuador was selected Best in Swimsuit. Miss Philippines Camille Hirro came in second and Miss Australia Caitlynn Henry placed third.

The swimsuit competition opened with a production number featuring all the ladies in their cocktail dresses. The girls then individually strode on the catwalk and introduced themselves to the audience. Getting the loudest applause was the host delegate from the Philippines followed by the girls from Kenya, Sweden, Australia, USA and Namibia.

 Opening Number
Event host Andrew Wolff acknowledged the V.I.P.’s in the audience including Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto and Panglao Mayor Nila Montero.  The 2012 Mister World 1st RU then introduced the ten- member panel of judges that included Bohol First Lady Pureza Chatto.

The girls who were all in identical two- piece swimsuits came out in alphabetical order and were divided in groups of eight and seven.

From the first batch, the standouts were Australia, Bulgaria & Chile.

From group two, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic & Ecuador were the standouts.

From group three, Holland, Kenya and Madagascar were the standouts.

Group four standouts were Norway, Philippines and Russia.

The girls from Sweden and Thailand were the standouts from group five.

Most applauded during the swimsuit segment were the girls from Kenya, Philippines, Madagascar, Namibia, Sweden and USA.

The ladies from the Philippines, Czech Republic, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Thailand had the best catwalk & overall presentation. In contrast, there were two girls who were so over- the- top much to the amusement of the crowd.

The scenestealers were Namibia and Madagascar and the girl from Tunisia was the most beautiful facially.

The judges gave scores ranging from 1 to 10 points based on beauty of face & figure, well- proportioned figure and overall impression.

Based on the criteria for the swimsuit competition, I predicted that the top three winners would be from the Philippines, Australia, Ecuador, Czech Republic & Russia.  Aside from their buffed and proportionate figures, they also happened to have globally- appealing facial beauty.  Not far behind were Russia, Thailand and Dominican Republic.

BEST CATWALK: Dominican Republic & Czech Republic
Just before the announcement of results, Andrew Wolff went to the audience and asked some of the guests for their favorites. Aside from the Philippines, Sweden and Tunisia were also mentioned as crowd favorites.

with Miss Bohol 2016 Glyssa Perez

Glyssa Perez with her Kuya Gabe
Reigning Miss Bohol 2016 Glyssa Perez was asked for her choices and she politely declined for the girls were already gathered onstage. That was a shining moment for the Boholana queen. She explained to me later after the event that she was sensitive to how the girls would feel especially for those who wouldn’t be mentioned.

Proclaimed as Best in Swimsuit was Ecuador’s Angela Bonilla. In second and third places were Camille Hirro of the Philippines and Australia’s Caitlynn Henry.

After the obligatory poses, handshakes, beso beso and the hellos. It was time to go.

But before we made our exit, a thought came to my mind. After seeing all the 38 ladies from all corners of the globe gather onstage, I realized that indeed there is beauty in diversity. That beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Highlights of the swimsuit competition and the girls' visit to Bohol will be shown during the Miss Global 2016 Grand Coronation Night
