TODAY, we pause and remember the thousands who lost their lives during the worst modern- day terror attacks in the United States.
Indelible images of the jumpers |
It has been 15 years since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States that left thousands dead and billions in damages to infrastructure & the economy. Better known as the 911 attacks, it awakened the United States from its complacency and forever changed the way the whole world deals with terrorism.
Your Roving Eye vividly recalls being glued to CNN the whole time that the crises was unfolding. It was so surreal seeing America’s twin symbols of economic strength tumble down like a scene straight from a Hollywood movie except that it was for real and the world’s superpower was caught off- guard.

A National September 11 Memorial & Museum has since risen from where the Twin Towers once stood as a tribute of remembrance and honor to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.
The memorial is not only a testament and recognition of the selfless acts of courage as well as the compassion of all who supported the United States in their hour of grief and tragic loss but also a reminder to seek peace, to preserve freedom and to end hatred, bigotry and intolerance.
TRIBUTE IN LIGHT
TRIBUTE IN LIGHT, one of the most powerful healing works of public art ever produced debuted on March 11, 2002 |
New York City turns on 887,000-watt xenon light bulbs to produce two powerful beams that point straight up four miles into the sky side by side, from dusk on September 11 through dawn the next day to remind everyone that once upon a time, two majestic towers once stood where the 911 memorial & museum now stand.
Visible within a sixty-mile radius on a clear night, Tribute in Light, the most powerful shafts of light ever projected from Earth, has become a world-renowned icon of remembrance, honoring those who were lost, as well as those who worked so hard to get New York through that terrible moment in time.
