Vote for Bohol in Miss Teen California 2017

Two weeks from now or December 4 to be exact, we shall find out if a young Boholana’s dream of becoming the next Miss Teen California will come true. If the stars will align in her favor, she will make history as the first Boholana to be crowned the Golden State’s fairest teenager.

Katiana Ann Butalid Borja  is a well- rounded teenager who balances her academics with her athletic and competitive side which she got from her dad Anthony Fabiosa Borja whose lineage includes the very famous and iconic PBA legend, Bernard Fabiosa.

Katiana was in fact the captain ball of the St. Genevieve High School basketball team that clinched for her the Heart of the Champion award as well as Junior Associate Student Body representative in the student council.

In Katiana’s genes run the blood of uncle Bernard Fabiosa, an enduring PBA legend

The winner of Miss Teen California 2017, along with 50 other state titleholders from across the United States gets to compete in the 2017 edition of Miss Teen USA, the sister pageant of Miss USA and Miss Universe that are owned by the Miss Universe Organization under WME/IMG

Danao's Bet for Miss Bohol 2016 & Maxine Medina are First Cousins!

Did you know that Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina, our newly- crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2016 is the first cousin of Glyssa Bingas Perez, the Boholana who traces her roots in Danao and the 2014 Miss Philippines Australia titleholder?
CROWNED  COUSINS: Glyssa Bingas Perez & Maxine Perez Medina

Maxine’s mom, Marife Perez Medina, a senior area manager in Makati for one of the country’s biggest banks, is the youngest sister of Godofredo Perez, the father of Glyssa. The Boholano connection of Glyssa is care of mom Yolie Bingas who is from Danao, Bohol.
CONFIDENT & CHARMING  COUSINS
Glyssa who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in commerce major in finance last March 2016 in Australia has been so inspired with her Ate Maxine’s victory that it’s now all systems go for her as Danao’s bet for Miss Bohol which incidentally marks its 90th year since Ascension Gaviola of Jagna was crowned Miss Bohol 1926.
  CLASS & CARRIAGE

The 5’ 7” beauty was here in Bohol a year ago for a Danao Eco Adventure Park photo shoot and to reconnect with her Boholano relatives in Danao. When asked why she wants to join Miss Bohol when she could go straight to a national pageant, she replied
"it would be a big honor for me to represent my mom's hometown Danao in Miss Bohol & to carry the name of Bohol if I were given the chance to compete in the nationals"

If indeed Glyssa Perez will compete in Miss Bohol this July, will she do an Elle Gonzales or surpass all expectations and clinch the crown hands down?

With rumors swirling that Karen Gallman, another Fil- Aussie beauty who landed in the Top 12 and voted Miss Photogenic in Bb Pilipinas 2012 as Ubay’s flag bearer, we expect a battle of the glamazons as Panglao is reportedly fielding a 5' 8" towering beauty.

With more than a dozen towns grooming and prepping up their bets for Bohol’s most prestigious crown, this year's edition of Miss Bohol would indeed be a fitting way to celebrate 90 years of the Boholana's beauty & charm

We shall find out a few months from now.

Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2016 Talent Night

Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2016 staged its Talent Competition last Friday at the Bohol Cultural Center. The fast- paced two hour show was not only a showcase of the girls’ talents in the creative & performing arts but  also a preview on how the girls would register onstage on pageant finals.

Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2016 Talent Night

The girls’ chit chat with the event hosts Christine Ann T. Juguan and Darlene B. Galao right before their individual talent presentations also gave the audience a hint of the girls’ communication skills and personality projection.

 Panel of Judges
Eleven of the girls presented a variety of stylized dance numbers that ranged from folk & traditional to dance sports and the interpretative kind. Their dance presentations were spiced up with a little acting, monologue and most had partners or back up dancers. Three of the girls opted to showcase their vocal stylings and one candidate showed off her dramatic flair.

Overall, it was an electrifying night that was punctuated with the supporters’ deafening cheers & thunderous applause. For the 15 candidates, the admiration from adoring fans and the chance to share with the audience their art were all worth the endless rehearsals, the sleepless nights and the pressure to deliver.

WHO ACED THE TALENT SHOWCASE?

Based on the criteria that focused on performance & showmanship with the degree of difficulty factored in, Your Roving Eye believes that the top scorers during the Talent Performance would have to be # 1 Tiptip who gave a dazzling song number, # 5 Bool who performed a couple of folk dances & played the kulintang, # 6 Mansasa with her very fluid dance moves, #10 Manga with her interpretative dance # 15 with her show- stopping number.

For entertainment value, # 2 Pob II, # 7 Cogon, # 12 Cabawan  were tops and for relevance, # 3 Dampas,  # 8 Pob III & # 13 Taloto. The rest did quite well also like # 4 Dao, # 9 Booy, # 11 San Isidro & # 14 Pob I

Why Maxine Medina is Miss Universe Philippines 2016

She gave many pageant fans including Your Roving Eye quite a scare when she gave a tentative response during the Q & A segment.

In the end, it was the regal aura & queenly bearing of Maria Mika Maxine Medina that made her clinch the most coveted crown in Bb Pilipinas. You just can’t deny the polished look of Maxine and her classy styling.
Maria Mika Maxine Medina is MUP 2016

By the way, for those who have been ranting why Maxine won over Nicole & Kylie despite what many Pinoys thought was a weak Q & A, remember this: Even if a certain candidate becomes the top scorer during the Bb Pilipinas  Coronation Night, it is not an assurance that she will also get the Miss Universe Philippines crown.

You see, prior to the announcement of winners, there is a final deliberation done behind closed doors among judges and the organizers as they assess each finalist and assign a title. This is where a lot of factors come into play such as age of the finalist and type of beauty favored in the particular international pageant assignment.

Finally, Q & A in Bb Pilipinas is only a mere 10% of the criteria for BPCI knows that this segment is very subjective and since the quality of one's response is highly dependent on a lot of factors like the type of question thrown in & degree of difficulty. Add to the mix the emotional, physical & mental state  that a candidate is in and you will realize that Q & A should not be the measure of one's intelligence.

This reminds me of how top Binibini of batch 1970 Aurora Pijuan ended up going to Miss International instead of Miss Universe because BPCI knew that with Gloria Diaz as the reigning queen, a back-to-back wasn’t possible and  she would just be wasted there. She ended up being sent to Miss International where she emerged as winner as expected.

This is not to say that Maxine will be sent as a token candidate to Miss Universe because the reigning Miss U is Pia Wurtzbach. The point is Maxine has Miss Universe written all over while Kylie despite her being stunning & fierce is not the Miss Universe prototype.

Only time can tell whether BPCI & the judging panel were right on the money or erred big- time in the assignment of pageant titles.

For the meantime, let the girls savor their well- deserved victories and let’s wish them well on their forthcoming pageant journeys.
