Miss Ubay 2007 To Represent The Philippines in the 2018 Miss Intercontinental Pageant

Karen Boyonas Gallman
Year 2017 was unprecedented when two Boholanas emerged as runners up in two of the biggest national pageants in the country.
Glyssa Bingas Perez placed as 1st Princess in the 2017 Miss World Philippines pageant while Catherine Cadayona Tabaniag was a runner up & Top Ten finisher in the 2017 Miss Philippines Earth Pageant.

This year 2018 has proven to be a bumper harvest for Boholana beauty queens who competed in the nationals. Bohol produced three national titleholders.

ANOTHER BB. PILIPINAS TITLEHOLDER. After Anna Maris Igpit- Taylor and Amanda Arles both from Panglao, Bohol were crowned 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World & 2014 Miss SCUBA Philippines, Bohol produced another national beauty queen when Karen Juanita Boyonas Gallman who traces her roots in Ubay, Bohol was crowned as 2018 Bb Pilipinas- Intercontinental.

Incidentally, the Miss Intercontinental 2018 pageant will be held in the Philippines with more than 80 delegates expected to participate in the 47th edition of Miss Intercontinental. Pageant finals is set for January 26, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Karen was Miss Ubay 2007 but didn't compete in Miss Bohol
Miss Intercontinental has proven to be elusive to Fiipina beauties. The closest we had to winning was the 1st Runner Up finish of both Katarina Rodriguez early this year and Christi Lynn Mc Garry back in 2015. Shall we see the crowning of a Boholana as the first Filipina Miss Intercontinental? We shall find out soon.

Karen was born in Sept 27, 1992 in Ubay, Bohol to retired World War II German soldier Gavin William Gallman and a native from Bohol Editha Boyonas. She had her formative years in Bohol where she also had her primary school education.

From the IG account of Glyssa Bingas Perez, newly- crowned Miss Bohol 2016

Triumphant smile of Miss Bohol 2016
“Change is coming” was the tagline used at last night’s final round Q&A and I would like to elaborate more on that. Positive change can happen, but it starts from us.
WE are the change and WE can be the change but only if we take up on that challenge. Actions are powered by good intentions.
We cannot predict the future, but we can make informed decisions that can help with our tomorrow and contribute to our community.
Here’s to a meaningful and enriching year of reign as the Quintessential Boholana!

Miss Duero & Miss Danao for Miss Bohol 2016

The spotlight will now move to the beauties from Duero & Danao. They are opposites as far as temperament, looks & background are concerned. One hails from the eastern coast of Bohol while the other traces her roots to the central part of Bohol. Let’s get to know these beauties a little better.
MISS DUERO & MISS DANAO
Candidate #11 Miss Duero Karen Jane Ubaub Ilagan, 20 years old, is a graduating BS Accountancy student. She is not only a Dean’s Lister but also the President of her school’s Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants. She graduated Class Valedictorian during elementary and Class Salutatorian during her high school graduation.
The 5’5’’ beauty who also possesses an impressive singing voice is a chameleon when it comes to her personal style & fashion sense. She was sweetness personified in her Chris Ramasola glamshot and vivacious and sultry during the swimsuit photo shoot.
Passing the CPA board examinations and landing a good job are her main priorities right after she graduates early next year.
MISS DUERO Karen Jane Ilagan

Candidate #12 Miss Danao Glyssa Leiann Bingas Perez, 21 years old, graduated with a BS Commerce degree major in Finance. During her college days in Australia where she spent her growing up years, she was awarded for the Best Endeavor in Finance 2015.
Beauty runs in her bloodline and in fact, she and reigning 2016 Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Perez Medina are first cousins. She was crowned the 2014 Miss Philippines Australia where she represented the Visayas Association of Australia Inc.. In the same pageant, she  also won the Best in Filipiniana, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown special awards.
Definitely one of the most polished and most prepared among the girls, she is fulfilling her mom Yolie Bingas Perez’ wish to have her represent her hometown of Danao in the Miss Bohol Pageant.

If she wins the Miss Bohol crown, she hopes to be given the chance to bring a voice in raising the awareness on breast cancer among Boholanas. The advocacy is closest to her heart for it has hit home and the main reason why her Australia- based mom who is undergoing chemotherapy cannot make it for the  for the grand coronation.

Danao's Bet for Miss Bohol 2016 & Maxine Medina are First Cousins!

Did you know that Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina, our newly- crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2016 is the first cousin of Glyssa Bingas Perez, the Boholana who traces her roots in Danao and the 2014 Miss Philippines Australia titleholder?
CROWNED  COUSINS: Glyssa Bingas Perez & Maxine Perez Medina

Maxine’s mom, Marife Perez Medina, a senior area manager in Makati for one of the country’s biggest banks, is the youngest sister of Godofredo Perez, the father of Glyssa. The Boholano connection of Glyssa is care of mom Yolie Bingas who is from Danao, Bohol.
CONFIDENT & CHARMING  COUSINS
Glyssa who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in commerce major in finance last March 2016 in Australia has been so inspired with her Ate Maxine’s victory that it’s now all systems go for her as Danao’s bet for Miss Bohol which incidentally marks its 90th year since Ascension Gaviola of Jagna was crowned Miss Bohol 1926.
  CLASS & CARRIAGE

The 5’ 7” beauty was here in Bohol a year ago for a Danao Eco Adventure Park photo shoot and to reconnect with her Boholano relatives in Danao. When asked why she wants to join Miss Bohol when she could go straight to a national pageant, she replied
"it would be a big honor for me to represent my mom's hometown Danao in Miss Bohol & to carry the name of Bohol if I were given the chance to compete in the nationals"
Glyssa with her aunt, the lovely Danao Mayor Naty Gonzaga & Your Roving Eye

If indeed Glyssa Perez will compete in Miss Bohol this July, will she do an Elle Gonzales or surpass all expectations and clinch the crown hands down?

With rumors swirling that Karen Gallman, another Fil- Aussie beauty who landed in the Top 12 and voted Miss Photogenic in Bb Pilipinas 2012 as Ubay’s flag bearer, we expect a battle of the glamazons as Panglao is reportedly fielding a 5' 8" towering beauty.

With more than a dozen towns grooming and prepping up their bets for Bohol’s most prestigious crown, this year's edition of Miss Bohol would indeed be a fitting way to celebrate 90 years of the Boholana's beauty & charm

We shall find out a few months from now.

Will the Lady from Down Under Join Miss Bohol 2016?

  Danao Damsel: Glyssa B. Perez
The loudest whisper that is circulating lately in the Bohol pageant circuit is the supposed participation of 20 year old Glyssa Bingas Perez in the 2016 Miss Bohol Pageant.

The 5’ 6” looker who was crowned Miss Philippines Australia a couple of years ago will be fielded  by the municipality of Danao.

Glyssa who represented the Visayan Association of Australia Inc. in the 2014 Miss Philippines Australia Pageant  also won the Best in Filipiniana, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown special awards.
Elegance & Fierceness: Great Combo for a Pageant Queen
Her mom is the former Yolie Bingas who traces her roots in San Carlos, Danao, Bohol is also a relative of the Gonzagas of Danao.

As Miss Philippines Australia 2014
Your Blogger got the opportunity to interview her when she made a quick visit to Bohol last summer. The ambassadress of beauty who visited the Philippines   as part of her goodwill tour for the Visayas Association of Australia Inc. was accompanied by her brother Gabe and Chita Chen Serra of GCEvents - Events Management.

Memorable Encounters with Filipina Beauty Queens

Your Roving Eye always makes it a point to have a photo memento with a beauty queen especially Boholana beauty queens when the opportunity presents itself.

You see, I reckoned since only a few share my avowed passion here in Bohol, I should make it as my mission in order to keep track with the lives of our beloved beauty queens and to create an archive of sorts and to be used for reference purposes in the near future.

As someone who has been actively involved in local pageantry whether as pageant emcee, judge, organizer or as publicist, I have amassed quite a few photos with these beauty queens.

Here are some of the most memorable:

1999                                               2015
MIRIAM QUIAMBAO. I first met Miriam Quiambao during the first TBTK back in July 1999 or less than two months after she placed 1st RU in the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant. Sixteen years later, our paths would cross again.

This time, at the 2015 Miss Beauche Intl Pageant held at the SMX in Mall of Asia

Miss Cebu winners Winonah Buot 2013 & Kris Tiffany Janson 2009
KRIS TIFFANY JANSON. I first met Kris Tiiffany Janson in 2009 when she just won the Miss Cebu title. We met again in 2014 after she was crowned Bb Pilipinas- Intercontinental. The meeting took place during the Miss Panglao Pageant where we both sat as judges.

Last year, she was already Miss Intercontinental 2014 2nd RU when she graced the Mr. & Ms. Teen Loay Pageant as a judge along with Winonah Buot, Miss Cebu 2013

Bb Pilipinas beauties Joyce Ann Burton & Anna Maris Igpit
Eastwood, Quezon City, Dec 2013

JOYCE ANN BURTON. She is the quintessential Bb Pilipinas of my generation having won two national beauty titles; 1981 Miss Young Philippines and 1985 Bb Pilipinas- Universe.

We became friends through her blogspot and the friendship was cemented when she accepted our invite to judge Miss Panglao 2012.

We met again in December 2013 to discuss the relief efforts for the Bohol quake victims. Joining us was Bb Pilipinas World 2006 Anna Maris Igpit who took an active role in the relief efforts.

Six Miss Bohol titleholders during during the 2015 Miss Bohol Pageant.
