Memorable Encounters with Filipina Beauty Queens

Your Roving Eye always makes it a point to have a photo memento with a beauty queen especially Boholana beauty queens when the opportunity presents itself.

You see, I reckoned since only a few share my avowed passion here in Bohol, I should make it as my mission in order to keep track with the lives of our beloved beauty queens and to create an archive of sorts and to be used for reference purposes in the near future. 

As someone who has been actively involved in local pageantry whether as pageant emcee, judge, organizer or as publicist, I have amassed quite a few photos with these beauty queens. 

Here are some of the most memorable:

1999                                               2015 

MIRIAM QUIAMBAO. I first met Miriam Quiambao during the first TBTK back in July 1999 or less than two months after she placed 1st RU in the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant. Sixteen years later, our paths would cross again.

KRIS TIFFANY JANSON. I first met Kris Tiiffany Janson in 2009 when she just won the Miss Cebu title. We met again in 2014 after she was crowned Bb Pilipinas- Intercontinental. The meeting took place during the Miss Panglao Pageant where we both sat as judges. 

Last year, she was already Miss Intercontinental 2014 2nd RU when she graced the Mr. & Ms. Teen Loay Pageant as a judge along with Winonah Buot, Miss Cebu 2013

JOYCE ANN BURTON. She is the quintessential Bb Pilipinas of my generation having won two national beauty titles; 1981 Miss Young Philippines and 1985 Bb Pilipinas- Universe. 

We became friends through her blogspot and the friendship was cemented when she accepted our invite to judge Miss Panglao 2012.

We met again in December 2013 to discuss the relief efforts for the Bohol quake victims. Joining us was Bb Pilipinas World 2006 Anna Maris Igpit who took an active role in the relief efforts.

Recalling a Boholana's Victory as Miss USJ-R Cebu

It has been six years since my niece, Nadia Claire Orimaco Urbino, only child of my cousin Penny Orimaco, competed in Miss Cebu 2009. 

Although she didn’t make the Top Five, being selected as one of the official candidates along with Rizzini Alexis Gomez and Kris Tiffany Janson for the Silver Anniversary edition of Miss Cebu was already quite an achievement. 

Kris eventually won the Miss Cebu 2009 crown and went on to win Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 while Rizzini is the ill- fated Miss Tourism International 2012 queen who recently succumbed to complications from lung cancer.

Before competing in Miss Cebu, she was already Miss USJR.  Just like Your Roving Eye, Nadia is also a graduate from Holy Name University High School in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. She is a batchmate of Miss Makati 2007 Mayumi Lugod.

Nadia is presently based in Pnom Penh, Cambodia and teaches at The The British Int. School of Phnom Pehn, Cambodia

And the Winners in Mr & Ms Teen Loay 2015 Are...

LOAY’S LOVELY LASSES & LIKABLE LADS. It was definitely the summer of their lives. Eight pairs of teens pitted pulchritude, poise & personality in the 2015 Mr. & Ms. Teen Loay Search, the glam event that highlighted Loay’s town fiesta in honor of Santisima Trinidad.

Crowned as the big winners after competing in swimwear, formal wear & casual interviews & hurdling the final Q & A were Male #5 Philip Tuyod, 17 years old and Female # 5 Katherine Gayle Duco, 16. 

RUNNERS UP. The male runners up were Jonre Baliwis 1^st RU and CeeJay Pabatao 2^nd RU. For the females, Reina Angelene Bacol 1^st RU and Stephanie Gayle Caga-anan 2^nd RU

BOARD OF JUDGES. Adding star power to the event was the board of judges chaired by Kris Tiffany Maslog Janson, 2014 Bb Piipinas- InterContinental & the 2^nd RU in Miss InterContinental 2014 where she was selected as Miss Photogenic and Asia & Pacific Queen of Beauty. Another glamorous judge was Wynonah Van Joy Buot, the reigning Miss Cebu 215.

The Project Chair, the very youthful & pretty Hon. 1^st Councilor RB Imboy was very ecstatic with how the pageant had become an avenue to develop & showcase the potentials of the youth of Loay.

SHOWCASE OF LOAY’S BEAUTY. As a parting shot, Loay’s very first lady mayor, Hon. Rosemarie L. Imboy, congratulated & thanked all the candidates for their support & participation in the community event. 

The radiantly beautiful mayor who was aglow during pageant night, likened the candidates’ transformation from raw teens into more confident individuals to that of Loay’s progress & how the town has kept apace with the march to development.

Vicariously, through the candidates, Loaynons have shown everyone the best there is about the town and why there was much to be thankful and to celebrate during its fiesta.

Which Beauty Queens Have Been at the Miss Panglao Pageant?

Question: What do Precious Lara Quigaman, Alexis Rizzini Gomez & Karla Henry have in common aside from being international beauty title holders?

Answer: All three have graced the Miss Panglao Beauty Pageant.

Five successive annual editions since it debuted in 2010, the Miss Panglao Pageant has gained a solid reputation among pageant aficionados in Bohol for being consistent in inviting world- class Filipina beauty pageants to  either grace the event or sit as judge during its finals night.is shaping up as the pageant

Panglao’s mother & daughter tandem of Mayor Nila Montero & Aya Montero have always dreamt of mounting a beauty pageant in Panglao not only to serve as glamorous highlight of the town’s fiesta celebration but also to be an avenue to select the town’s spokespersons & role models for the youth. Both knew that one surefire way of building up a pageant’s reputation and credibility is the presence of highly- respected Filipina beauty queens & entertainment figures.

During the pageant’s debut in 2010, no less than 2005 Bb Pilipinas- International & 2005 Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman came to crown the first- ever pageant winner.

This year, three reigning titleholders came. They were 2014 Bb Pilipinas- Intercontinental Kris Tiffany Janson, 2014 Mutya ng Pilipinas- Asia Pacific Intl Eva Pyschee Patalinjug & 2014 Miss Philippines Earth Jaime Herell. What made their presence extra special was the presence of leading beauty queen maker & make up maven Jonas Borces & top Philippine pageant blogger Norman Tinio

The presence of the aforementioned ladies never failed to put a smile on every Boholano including Your Blogger who caught glimpses of their stunning visage.

I look forward to next year as we half- guess which beauty queen would enplane to Panglao. Who knows? It just might be another Filipina titleholder!

Kris Tiffany Janson: Will She Be the 1st Filipina Miss Intercontinental?

Kris Tiffany Janson, our country’s official bet for the Miss Intercontinental pageant, will be the first of the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas queens to compete abroad. She is all set to leave for Jordan, pageant venue by October 5. 

Looking at her latest photo convinces me that she is more than ready to conquer the elusive Miss Intercontinental crown.

I saw Kris Tiffany Janson really up close and personal last August 25 when we both sat at the Panel of Judgfes for the Miss Panglao 2014 Pageant.

The day after the Miss Panglao Pageant, Kris gamely joined Your Blogger & Norman Tinio for a quick visit to Bellevue Resort where we stayed for a few precious minutes before going on a quick tour around Bohol’s beauty spots
