You may vote for Glyssa Perez HERE

Miss Bohol 2016 Glyssa Leiann Bingas Perez aims to become the second Boholana to represent the Philippines in the biggest & longest running international beauty pageant, the Miss World Pageant.

The 22 years old who graduated with a BS Commerce degree major in Finance during her college days in Australia where she spent her growing up years is one of the 35 official candidates for Miss World Philippines 2017.

Aside from the Miss World Philippines crown, there are three other titles at stake, namely;

Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, Miss Multinational Philippines and Miss Eco Philippines.

Although Ms. Perez wasn’t among the favorites during the early stages of the competition, she is slowly inching her way into the winning circle after getting shortlisted in the Sports Fitness Challenge and getting noticed in the Top Model category.

With her innate charm, eloquence, poise and grace, there is no denying that Bohol’s bet will shine on coronation night set this Sunday, September 3 at the MOA Arena.

Boholana Wins Miss CNU- TC 2016

It’s true. When a door closes, a window opens. Such is the case of Bretziel Llanzaderas Laurel, the towering 5’ 9” beauty who represented Loon in the 2016 edition of Miss Bohol where she was unplaced despite an outstanding performance.

Bretziel is beautiful with or sans make up

Egged on by classmates, teachers and peers to join the Miss Teacher’s College Quest in Cebu Normal University, Bretziel almost backed out when she was informed of the sad news that her dear lola Cita Comajig Laurel had passed away hours before the pageant finals.

Love for her lola, duty & responsibility prevailed when she realized that it was her lola who wanted her to become a beauty queen.

Before the night was over, she was proclaimed as the new queen who will represent her college in the campus- wide search for Miss Cebu Normal University this September.

With her lola to guide her in the upcoming pageant that selects CNU's bets for the regional and national competitions, Bretziel is in good hands.

Coincidentally, the Miss CNU title is currently held by Jessanie Mangaron who also represented Loon in the Miss Bohol 2014 Pageant.

Message of Love for the Miss Bohol 2016 Girls

With bated breath and heightened anticipation, the much- anticipated quest for Miss Bohol 2016 reached its conclusion through its glittering & exciting grand coronation night held at the Bohol Wisdom School Gym last July 17.

 MISS PANGLAO
The hectic preparations, the last- minute coaching, the tension and intense pressure that left some of the girls in near- tears are now over and done with.

 MISS ALBURQUERQUE
 MISS LOBOC
Right now, the huge and cavernous BWS gymnasium where the pageant was held and where most of the rehearsals were conducted is now back to its quiet and and dark evenings. The bright lights have been dimmed, the confetti has been swept away and thje applause has died down.
 MISS DAUIS
 MISS LOON
From a bevy of beautiful Boholana achievers, the spotlight and the intense scrutiny of media and the public are now focused on the brand- new Miss Bohol who is now one of the most Googled and most searched Bohol newsmakers.

What about the girls who didn't make it? How are they coping? Are they heaving a sigh of relief now that it is all over?
 MISS LOBOC

MISS SEVILLA

Will the pageant results dampen their spirits and be a big blow to their self -esteem and smash their confidence to smithereens?

Browsing over the FB pages of some of the girls who competed last Sunday night was just heartbreaking. Yet, it also offered glimmers of hope and proved how Boholanos have a strong support system; from parents like Miss Loboc’s parents who were very supportive & who were almost always present in their daughter’s pageant activities & rigid rehearsals.
 MISS DAUIS
 MISS LOON

To the town mayors who gave their all- out support to their candidates. To friends and acquaintances whose unending enthusiasm never fails to amaze me. Imagine getting almost 50,000 FB shares In the race for Darling of the Social Media? That is exactly what Miss Garcia- Hernandez amassed to clinch the social media award.

The Panglao delegation that had the all- out support of Mayor Nila Montero & Councilor Aya Montero was the biggest contingent that came to offer cheers and applause for Catherine Tabaniag who for some inexplicable reason was shut out from the finals along with Judy Ann Cimafranca, the beauty & brains from Dauis, the gorgeous Quir Nicole Maghuyop and the statuesque beauty from Loon, Bretziel Laurel who is destined for a national beauty title.

I cannot mention everyone in this year’s batch of girls here but all of them really worked hard to bring home the crown for their municipalities & city. With the competitive quality of the girls who competed, it was inevitable that some of the frontrunners and fan favorites would not make it.

Scores of messages of love and support from their families, friends and fans were posted on the girls’ FB timelines can be read by one and all.

 MISS PITOGO ISLAND
I was so moved and touched that I am now dedicating this blog article to the Class of 2016 who can claim and recall years from now how at one point in their lives that they were a part of the annual celebration of Bohol's beauty and friendship

To The 2016 Miss Bohol Pageant Girls:
Don't you ever let the pageant results from Miss Bohol 2016 define who you are as a person.
Consider it as a phase in your life. An adventure. A learning experience. Hold your heads high for you all did a great job. You did not get the crown because you are destined for something greater.
Remember, winning a beauty title doesn't mean you're the smartest nor the prettiest.
According to Margie Moran, the second Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown, it also involves Luck. Timing & Destiny plus the personal preferences and tastes of the judges.
Lastly, always remember that you belong to a special breed of Boholanas for not everyone can be a beauty contestant.
Finally, whether you made it or not, take time to thank your family and all the people who believed in you and helped you in your journey towards the Miss Bohol Sandugo crown because a real queen is someone who is gracious and knows how to look back with gratitude So Cheers and Smile for God Loves You

Triumphant smile of Miss Bohol 2016
“Change is coming” was the tagline used at last night’s final round Q&A and I would like to elaborate more on that. Positive change can happen, but it starts from us.
WE are the change and WE can be the change but only if we take up on that challenge. Actions are powered by good intentions.
We cannot predict the future, but we can make informed decisions that can help with our tomorrow and contribute to our community.
Here’s to a meaningful and enriching year of reign as the Quintessential Boholana!

Miss Bohol 2016 Talent Show Highlights

Last Saturday, July 9, the much- awaited Talent Competition of Miss Bohol 2016 took place at the Bohol Wisdom School Gym.

Although the scores earned from this particular area of judging is only 10% of the total scores that determine who makes the next cut, the candidates and their handlers make sure that they’re prepared for it.

Most I believe, have ascribed to the notion that the bigger & the more complicated the routines or the production design, the better it would be. The talent segment has become an event in itself and is usually held on a separate date and venue.
HOSTS: Your Roving Eye & reigning Miss Bohol 2015 Eda Cimafranca
True enough, the girls did prepare for the talent showdown with the most elaborate sets & jaw- dropping props & costumes that can rival those of musicals or stage plays.

EXPERT PANEL OF JUDGES

The judging panel for last week’s Talent Competition was made up of Boholano culture and arts luminaries Lutgardo “Gardie” Labad, Marianito Luspo and Vida Tirol de Juan, experts who had linkages, experience and exposure in the performing and creative arts.

HOW THE TALENT SEGMENT IS JUDGED:

The judges were to evaluate each candidate's performance and give her a score based on quality of performance, mastery & virtuosity, stage presence, star quality & entertainment value. My only quibble about the criteria was the inclusion of audience impact and relevance. Audience impact would surely hurt the girls who could only muster a few supporters. And when does relevance have anything to do with pure and unadulterated talent?

CANDIDATE # 1 MISS LILA

 CANDIDATE # 2 MISS JAGNA

  CANDIDATE # 3 MISS LOBOC

But apart from its entertainment value, does it really bring out the best of the candidates when it comes to showcasing their performing arts talent?

As judge and pageant coach, I notice that most candidates usually showcase everything in the very limited time that they have to present their talents.

 CANDIDATE # 4 MISS ALBURQUERQUE

 CANDIDATE # 5 MISS SEVILLA

  CANDIDATE # 6 MISS DAUIS
Good if the candidate is actually versatile but my advice for the girls would be to showcase ONLY what they really excel in. If she croaks like a frog, never ever dare to sing live! If you realize that the backup dancers are way way better and can actually eclipse your moment onstage, then forget having a pair of back up dancers.!

CANDIDATE # 7 MISS GARCIA- HERNANDEZ

CANDIDATE # 8 MISS PITOGO ISLAND

 CANDIDATE # 9 MISS TALIBON
Candidates and coaches have to be reminded that the talent segment is judged mainly and most of the times, solely on the basis of the girl's performance. The judges are focused on the sterling aspect of the performance, how the girl connects with the audience and of course, the star quality.

Does she catch & hold the attention of judges & audiences alike?

 CANDIDATE # 10 MISS TUBIGON

 CANDIDATE # 11 MISS DUERO

  CANDIDATE # 12 MISS DANAO

If you can out sing Leah Salonga, then showcase your vocal stylings with a solo not an entire repertoire. The judges and the audience don't have to eat the whole cake to know it's delicious, right? Having the most expensive costumes & accessories and being provided with the most impressive props would just be an exercise in futility.

So remember, focus on what you can actually deliver and what you’re really good at.

  CANDIDATE # 13 MISS PANGLAO

  CANDIDATE # 14 MISS PANGLAO

CANDIDATE # 15 MISS TAGBILARAN CITY

  CANDIDATE # 16 MISS LOON
Not many might have been blessed with the grace & fluidity of Terpsichore or trained under the tutelage of Thespis but at the end of the day, the deafening applause, the admiration from adoring fans and the chance to share with the audience one's art are all worth the endless rehearsals and the pressure to deliver.
