Quir Nicole Maghuyop: From Beauty Queen to Licensed Pyschometrician

The Maghuyop family recently tendered a thanksgiving dinner for Boholana beauty queen Quir Nicole Maghuyop after she passed the Oct 27 & 28 licensure exams for psychometricians & psychologists.

Ms. Maghuyop is best remembered for being the youngest Miss Silka Bohol winner to place as Top Ten finalist in the national finals.

After graduating from HNU High School Dept., she proceeded to San Pedro College in Davao City for her premed course.  While pursuing her BS   Psychology degree, she was also the president of the Kaalam Dance Company  and as Gen. Secretary of her school’s League of Student Organizations.

If plans don’t miscarry, Quir Nicole, the third child of Gumer & Abigail Maghuyop, will proceed with her plans to proceed to medicine next schoolyear.

Congratulations once again to one of my favorite beauty queens!

Message of Love for the Miss Bohol 2016 Girls

With bated breath and heightened anticipation, the much- anticipated quest for Miss Bohol 2016 reached its conclusion through its glittering & exciting grand coronation night held at the Bohol Wisdom School Gym last July 17.

 MISS BOHOL 2016 Opening Salvo
 MISS LOBOC
 MISS PANGLAO
The hectic preparations, the last- minute coaching, the tension and intense pressure that left some of the girls in near- tears are now over and done with.

 MISS ALBURQUERQUE
 MISS LOBOC
Right now, the huge and cavernous BWS gymnasium where the pageant was held and where most of the rehearsals were conducted is now back to its quiet and and dark evenings. The bright lights have been dimmed, the confetti has been swept away and thje applause has died down.
 MISS DAUIS
 MISS LOON
From a bevy of beautiful Boholana achievers, the spotlight and the intense scrutiny of media and the public are now focused on the brand- new Miss Bohol who is now one of the most Googled and most searched Bohol newsmakers.

What about the girls who didn't make it? How are they coping? Are they heaving a sigh of relief now that it is all over?
 MISS LOBOC

MISS SEVILLA

Will the pageant results dampen their spirits and be a big blow to their self -esteem and smash their confidence to smithereens?

Browsing over the FB pages of some of the girls who competed last Sunday night was just heartbreaking. Yet, it also offered glimmers of hope and proved how Boholanos have a strong support system; from parents like Miss Loboc’s parents who were very supportive & who were almost always present in their daughter’s pageant activities & rigid rehearsals.
 MISS DAUIS
 MISS LOON

To the town mayors who gave their all- out support to their candidates. To friends and acquaintances whose unending enthusiasm never fails to amaze me. Imagine getting almost 50,000 FB shares In the race for Darling of the Social Media? That is exactly what Miss Garcia- Hernandez amassed to clinch the social media award.

The Panglao delegation that had the all- out support of Mayor Nila Montero & Councilor Aya Montero was the biggest contingent that came to offer cheers and applause for Catherine Tabaniag who for some inexplicable reason was shut out from the finals along with Judy Ann Cimafranca, the beauty & brains from Dauis, the gorgeous Quir Nicole Maghuyop and the statuesque beauty from Loon, Bretziel Laurel who is destined for a national beauty title.

I cannot mention everyone in this year’s batch of girls here but all of them really worked hard to bring home the crown for their municipalities & city. With the competitive quality of the girls who competed, it was inevitable that some of the frontrunners and fan favorites would not make it.

Scores of messages of love and support from their families, friends and fans were posted on the girls’ FB timelines can be read by one and all.

 MISS PITOGO ISLAND
I was so moved and touched that I am now dedicating this blog article to the Class of 2016 who can claim and recall years from now how at one point in their lives that they were a part of the annual celebration of Bohol's beauty and friendship

To The 2016 Miss Bohol Pageant Girls:
Don't you ever let the pageant results from Miss Bohol 2016 define who you are as a person.
Consider it as a phase in your life. An adventure. A learning experience. Hold your heads high for you all did a great job. You did not get the crown because you are destined for something greater.
Remember, winning a beauty title doesn't mean you're the smartest nor the prettiest.
According to Margie Moran, the second Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown, it also involves Luck. Timing & Destiny plus the personal preferences and tastes of the judges.
Lastly, always remember that you belong to a special breed of Boholanas for not everyone can be a beauty contestant.
Finally, whether you made it or not, take time to thank your family and all the people who believed in you and helped you in your journey towards the Miss Bohol Sandugo crown because a real queen is someone who is gracious and knows how to look back with gratitude So Cheers and Smile for God Loves You

Miss Loboc & Miss Alburquerque for Miss Bohol 2016

Your Roving Eye is currently doing a series of features for the ladies who are vying for the Miss Bohol 2016 crown. Quir & Pearl share two things in common.
 Miss Loboc & Miss Alburquerque
Both ladies have competed and won in Miss Silka Bohol, the official preliminary that selects Bohol’s bets for the annual nationwide search for product endorsers & image models for a line of beauty products.

Both ladies are also taking medical and allied medical courses in prestigious medical schools.

CANDIDATE # 3 MISS LOBOC Quir Nicole G. Maghuyop, 17 years old, is an incoming BS Psychology sophomore at the San Pedro College, Davao City where she a Dean’s Lister and an active member of the school’s Kaalam Dance Company, Student Congress & Speech Society.
After winning the Miss Silka Bohol 2013 title at the age of 14, she represented Bohol in the Miss Silka Philippines 2013 national finals where she placed in the Top Ten.
Surprisingly, despite being the image model & endorser for a line of skin whitening products, Quir is the outdoorsy type who worships the sand, sea & sun. Her free time is spent playing frisbee, running and biking with friends.

CANDIDATE # 4 MISS ALBURQUERQUE Pearl Dianne B. Bungabong, 22 years old, the registered nurse is now in her second year as a Degree of Medicine student at the Cebu Doctors University and plans to specialize in pediatrics or neurology.
Miss Silka Bohol 2014 organizers, production staff & fellow candidates remember Pearl as one of the girls who never hesitates to help the neophytes with their pasarela (pageant walk) and question and answer tips.
She eventually finished as 2nd RU and swept most of the special awards at stake.
Pearl is also the reigning Miss College of Medicine in Cebu Doctors University and represented her school in the 2016 Miss Association of Philippine Medical Colleges, an inter- medical school competition where she emerged 2nd Runner Up.
Pearl is also a contributing writer for their school paper and is also a member of the College of Medicine Dance Team.

Quir Nicole Maghuyop in the 2013 Miss Silka Philippines National Finals

2013 Miss Silka Bohol After winning the Miss Silka Bohol 2013 title, Quir Nicole Maghuyop placed Bohol in the national spotlight late last year when she represented the province in the national finals of Miss Silka Philippines 2014.

right after her crowning as Miss Silka Bohol 2013
Ms. Maghuyop placed in the Top Ten from out of 30 provincial & regional beauty delegates from all over the country.

Thirty candidates from all over the country competed in the 2013 Miss Silka Philippines beauty pageant held at the Market! Market! Activity Center in Taguig, November 10.

PANEL OF JUDGES

It was an impressive panel of judges that included Miss World Philippines National Franchise Director Cory Quirino, entrepreneur George Salud; Silka ambassadress Iya Villania; Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles; basketball pros David and Anthony Semerad; San Miguel Beermen point guard Chris Banchero; Azkals striker Angel Guirado; dramatic actor Martin del Rosario; talent manager and advertising guru Arnold Vegafria; TV host Divine Lee; and Cosmetique Asia Corp. marketing manager Jane Co.

Nicole confided to me that whoever is sent to represent Bohol in the pageant should not only be the most deserving. She also has to believe in herself and must have self- confidence. You see, the moment you step off the plane and see the other girls who have won in their respective provinces is enough to make you doubt yourself.

She has a practical tip:
“Expect the worst but hope for the best. Seeing how beautiful & how tall the other candidates were, I already conditioned myself not to expect anything. I simply enjoyed bonding with the other girls especially those from the Visayas.
So when I was called as one of the Top Ten Semi-finalists, I was so shocked. Overall, it was such an unforgettable experience and made me into a more responsible and more mature person"
Here are some of the highlights from the pageant

From among the girls who represented the Visayas, only Bohol, Cebu & Tacloban advanced to the Top Ten.

Best in Swimsuit was Miss Zambales Faith Garcia who also got crowned as Miss Silka Philippines 2013. Incidentally, Faith also represented Zambales in the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 where she made it as Top Ten Finalist
