Ross & Maia’s Joint Glittery Golden Birthday Bash

It was a birthday bash like no other. With two vavavoom girls sharing the spotlight, it was guaranteed to be double the fun & the intensity.

Maia Corales & Rosaline Manigque welcomed their entry into the golden society with panache and elan. Styled and organized by Haidee Ingking and assisted by Your Roving Eye, the fun evening was just the right mix of party music, scrumptious hors de ouvres & canapés, wide array of drinks and the best crowd ever.

Held at D Box a couple of weeks back, the celebration exuded positive vibes and radiated just the right party mood as guests, family members & close friends started to arrive. 

A short program highlighted the golden milestone that evening and Maia and Ross graciously gave in to everyone’s request for spot numbers.

Maia reminded everyone of her singing & dancing days when she presented a showstopping version of Zsa Zsa Padilla’s “Point of No Return” and Ross gave a spirited choreographed dance number with a little help from Achilles Amores and Chevy Torillo.

As the party drew to a close and remnants of the fun evening was slowly swept away, many of the guests still tarried a bit. Some were in a huddle and the perky ones couldn’t resist singing along to the strains of the 80’s music that was still playing albeit at a lowered volume.

A couple of weeks have passed and both Maia & Ross have gone back abroad yet memories of that wonderful evening that blended nostalgia and fun is still being talked about as one of the fun fun events this side of the planet.

Cebu’s U.K. Lily to Rock Coclea Lounge Bar on Oct. 27!

William Shakespeare once said, "If music be the food of love, play on." This is what the band U.K. LILY lives by. Their love for life and music.

Formed in the early millennium, 2003 to be exact, the band still plays music to this date. A collective of musicians of different genres from 80's and 90's pop, new wave, rock, reggae and more, they all have one thing in common which is playing music with verve and passion.

Injecting their own individual feel into the songs they play, it is unmistakable that U.K. LILY's music projects their life and the music they perform. The band members also play for other famous and equally successful bands in Cebu making U.K. LILY an all star ensemble. 

They are Chad Cañares –Vocals (Roots), Balir Kabahar – Drummer (Sheila and the Insects), Benjie Fernandez – Guitars (Sheila and the Insects), Jeremy Custodio – Bass (Herbs), and Lloyd Escario – Guitars (Johnnie and the Walkers). 

And mind you, Chad Cañares is no ordinary talent for he once served as Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Bantayan in the Province of Cebu.

Tenggoy Colmenares, the band’s frontman, who was also the alternate lead vocalist for another iconic Cebu band,  40 the Band will lead his bandmates in dishing out rock classics, alternative music & cool rock from 80’s and 90’s bands like the Police, The Cure, Dishwalla, Pearl Jam and Gin Blossoms.

We used to be the wild, independent- minded rebels from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s who partied like there was no tomorrow.  But by some miracle, we were able to outgrow that phase and are now all grown up. Many of us have settled nicely into parenthood, have thrived and found success in our careers and most have shunned the late nights out.

Perhaps, because our daily work responsibilities do not tolerate hangovers and we cannot keep our eyes open beyond 10 pm, there is no love lost for missing out on those parties that stretch to the wee hours of the morning. WHY COCLEA LOUNGE BAR? The name of the newest upscale lounge bar? It’s aptly called COCLEA LOUNGE BAR. So why Coclea or Cochlea? Coclea (Spanish for Cochlea) is the part of the inner ear involved in hearing. The cochlea is capable of exceptional sound analysis, in terms of both frequency and intensity.

I had the chance to talk to one of the owners of the said establishment and when asked on their target market, he said that the group agreed that it should cater to their age group.

Coclea Lounge Bar has an airconditioned lounge which can comfortably seat 30 to 50. With movie posters adorning its bare walls and LP jackets of vinyl records, the place instantly evokes nostalgia. It’s perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine while listening to your favorite blast from the past. There is even a bar with comfortable stools to enjoy the music or to talk with an acquaintance or a complete stranger.

Just outside the lounge is an open area which offers patrons a spectacular view of Tagbilaran Bay while enjoying the live music being performed on a stage.

Everyone just loved the new look and feel of Club Atmospheres. The industrial look, the plush and comfy seats, the pulsating beat, the hypnotic lights and the eclectic mix of partygoers make up for one fun fun experience.  That night we bumped into beauty queens, balikbayans, models, artists, yuppies and young entrepreneurs.
