Gayle Suzette Garces Yu is Bohol’s Bet for Miss Philippines Earth 2015

Twenty three old Gayle Suzette Garces Yu, a registered nurse, bested a field of nine ladies before a jampacked crowd at the Island City Mall (ICM) Activity Center last Sunday, March 29 & earned the right to represent the province of Bohol in the forthcoming national finals of the 2015 Miss Philippines Earth Pageant. 

Aside from being the recipient of the Miss Javita Coffee & Miss Creamsilk Beautiful Hair corporate awards, Ms Yu was also the People’s Choice Awardee, Best in Swimsuit & Best in Interview. 

Her ecotourism video that promoted the tourism potentials of her hometown Calape was also adjudged the best.

As the inaugural winner of Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol Search, Gayle will be flying off to Manila on April 9 for the month- long series of challenges & pre- pageant activities leading to the Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Grand Coronation Night on May, SM MOA Arena & telecast live over ABS CBN. 

When interviewed, Ms Yu remarked " This is totally unexpected. Right after college graduation, I flew to the US, took and passed the NCLEX. I was about to start work but had to come summer of last year to take care personally of my mom who was battling the Big C. After my mom lost her battle with cancer, I was all set to go back to the US when I heard of the pageant. As a campus writer during my high school & college years, environmental issues have been one of my passions" I dedicate my triumph to my mom Grace who I'm sure is proud of my accomplishment" This is also for my dad and my sister and brothers, relatives & friends"

Named 1^st RU was the very charming Jenina Abrau from the Municipality of San Miguel who topped the Evening Gown Competition with her flawless & elegant presentation. 2^nd RU was the very polished & well- prepared Olive Zoilo of Tubigon. Named Miss Talent was Imaculada Cleofe Leopardas of Baclayon.

All the candidates competed & were judged in the talent, Hanz Coquila swimsuits, evening gowns, interviews and submitted a three minute ecotourism video before the winners were proclaimed & crowned.

BEAUTIES FOR A CAUSE

As with the ongoing provincial & regional screenings & searches, the Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol search included a swimsuit & evening gown competition, talent competition, a three- minute ecotourism video where the girls promote the tourism potentials & environmental situation of their respective towns/ cities. With the Miss Philippines Earth Pageant’s focus on having its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth, more weight is given to personality and also to ecological and environmental intelligence in the interview portion.

Since 2008, Miss Philippines-Earth has broadened its coverage to include candidates from various provinces, cities, and municipalities. The decision to transform Miss Philippines Earth in a larger-scale was made to further the cause of Miss Philippines Earth and with more participants involved, Carousel Productions would be able to reach more people and communities involved in its environmental advocacy. The reigning titleholders dedicate their year to promote environmental projects and to address issues concerning the environment. They also serve as spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations. The grand winner will represent Philippines in Miss Earth pageant.

Cebuana Beauty Is Miss Philippines Earth 2014!

Bohol should celebrate and rejoice when the final results for the 2014 Miss Philippines Earth came out late last night

You see, two of her neighboring island provinces in Central Visayas won big time. This year’s Miss Philippines Earth is Jamie Herrell who represented Cebu City and Miss Philippines Water (or 2^nd RU) is Kimberly of Dumaguete City Covert

Although Bohol isn't represented in this year's edition, a Boholana did participate in the person of Amanda Arbitrario, a half Pinay- half Aussie from Panglao Island who represented Caloocan City in the pageant.

Jamie is Best in Swimsuit

Jamie who topped the preliminaries and won most of the sponsors’ awards including Darling of the Press, Miss Solaire Resort & Casino and Best in Swimsuit is the daughter of an American father and a Filipina mother.

Her quick wit, fresh- faced beauty and strong stage presence makes her a formidable competitor in the forthcoming Miss Earth 2014 pageant.

On the other hand, the biggest shocker was the exclusion of early fave Ross Misa from Makati City from the Top 10

Another upset was the failure of Ms. Sta. Rita from entering the Magic Five

The pageant had its finals at the Mall of Asia Arena and hosted by Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry of Cebu City and Robi Domingo
