2018 Miss Bohol Girls Series # 11 Miss San Miguel

For the second straight year, the Miss Bohol girls get to be photographed right at their hometowns or city of origin. This is not only to get to know the girls better but also to showcase and promote  their places’ landmarks and tourism potential.

Hazel Marcelo Abrau, a 17 year old senior high- school student is this year’s Miss San Miguel in the province’s most prestigious and longest running beauty competition.

Aside from being an acclaimed dancer in her school, she is also a student leader being the Grade 12 representative in their school’s Supreme Student Government.

The 5’ 4” beauty follows the dainty footsteps of her elder sister Genina Abrau who also represented her town in the Miss Bohol Pageant back in 2014 and as San Miguel & Bohol's bet in the 2016 Miss Philippines Earth national finals in Manila.

Part 2: Meet Bohol's Bets for Miss Philippines Earth 2017

Meet the last five of the eleven exquisite environmental beauties who will battle it out in Miss Philippines Earth 2017- The Bohol Search for the right to represent the province in the national finals.  

  Who will be Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol 2017?

The eleven were earlier chosen in a preliminary screening at the Island City Mall Activity Center a couple of weeks ago.

The Grand Coronation is on Sunday, March 25, 3 pm at the Island City Mall (ICM) Activity Center.

Two of the guest judges are the reigning Miss Philippines-Earth-Water 2016 –Ms. Malanie Mader and The International Franchises & Branding Manager for Miss Earth at Carousel Production -Ms. Astrud Margareth M. Schuck

Who Will Be Bohol's Bet for Miss Philippines Earth 2017?

Eight Bohol- based beauties showed up for the 1^st screening of candidates for the 2017 edition of Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol which will have its Grand Coronation Night on March 25 at the Island City Mall Activity Center.

Your Roving Eye, Gayle Suzette Yu & Genina Abrau, Bohol’s bets in the national search for 2015 and 2016, respectively, composed the judging panel during the screening held at the ICM Activity Center yesterday afternoon.

Last Saturday’s preliminary screening yielded a quite tall batch of girls whose height ranged from 5’6” to 5’ 9”.

Ritchel Mutia, PR & Marketing Officer of Alturas Group of Companies, said that Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol 2017 is looking for interested Boholana beauties beauties from 18 years- 26 years old, stands at least 5’ 4”, at least a high school graduate and possesses environmental awareness.

Boholana Beauty in Miss Philippines Earth 2016

Hers was a last- minute decision to participate in the ongoing 2016 Miss Philippines Earth Pageant. 

Meet Genina Marcelo Abrau, the Boholana who is wearing the sash of San Miguel, Bohol in the 16th annual edition of the search for the country’s environmental advocate.

She emerged as 1st Runner Up to Gayle Suzette Yu in the inaugural search for Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol last year. 

The 21 year old BS Computer Engineering graduate from BISU thought that was the last of her stints in pageantry but she was wrong. 

Genina got the shock of her life when she received a call from the Bohol franchise holders that she was picked by the committee to represent Bohol this year after the winner Charysse Roferos withdrew from the competition .

She described the pre-pageant activities as hectic but enjoyable & totally different experiences. 

She has bonded well with the 45 other candidates from all over the country & from overseas assignments.

Looks like Loon's bid to have its first national beauty pageant titleholder will have to be on hold.  

Alturas Group of Companies, the Miss Philippines Earth Bohol franchise holder announced that Genina Marcelo Abrau who hails from the municipality of San Miguel, Bohol will now be Bohol’s official representative to the 2016 Miss Philippines Earth  national finals slated on June 12 after Charysse Jane Camilotes Roferos backed out from the competition due to some personal reasons.

Genina, a 5’ 6” morena beauty who is a sought- after RMAB model and a campus headturner of Bohol Island State University- Main Campus where she recently finished her bachelor’s degree finished as 1^st RU to Gayle Suzette Yu in last year’s inaugural search for Bohol’s bet to the search for the country’s Earth Warriots & spokespersons for environmental protection.

Gayle Suzette Garces Yu is Bohol’s Bet for Miss Philippines Earth 2015

Twenty three old Gayle Suzette Garces Yu, a registered nurse, bested a field of nine ladies before a jampacked crowd at the Island City Mall (ICM) Activity Center last Sunday, March 29 & earned the right to represent the province of Bohol in the forthcoming national finals of the 2015 Miss Philippines Earth Pageant. 

Aside from being the recipient of the Miss Javita Coffee & Miss Creamsilk Beautiful Hair corporate awards, Ms Yu was also the People’s Choice Awardee, Best in Swimsuit & Best in Interview. 

Her ecotourism video that promoted the tourism potentials of her hometown Calape was also adjudged the best.

As the inaugural winner of Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol Search, Gayle will be flying off to Manila on April 9 for the month- long series of challenges & pre- pageant activities leading to the Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Grand Coronation Night on May, SM MOA Arena & telecast live over ABS CBN. 

When interviewed, Ms Yu remarked " This is totally unexpected. Right after college graduation, I flew to the US, took and passed the NCLEX. I was about to start work but had to come summer of last year to take care personally of my mom who was battling the Big C. After my mom lost her battle with cancer, I was all set to go back to the US when I heard of the pageant. As a campus writer during my high school & college years, environmental issues have been one of my passions" I dedicate my triumph to my mom Grace who I'm sure is proud of my accomplishment" This is also for my dad and my sister and brothers, relatives & friends"

Named 1^st RU was the very charming Jenina Abrau from the Municipality of San Miguel who topped the Evening Gown Competition with her flawless & elegant presentation. 2^nd RU was the very polished & well- prepared Olive Zoilo of Tubigon. All the candidates competed & were judged in the talent, Hanz Coquila swimsuits, evening gowns, interviews and submitted a three minute ecotourism video before the winners were proclaimed & crowned.

BEAUTIES FOR A CAUSE

As with the ongoing provincial & regional screenings & searches, the Miss Philippines Earth- Bohol search included a swimsuit & evening gown competition, talent competition, a three- minute ecotourism video where the girls promote the tourism potentials & environmental situation of their respective towns/ cities. With the Miss Philippines Earth Pageant’s focus on having its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth, more weight is given to personality and also to ecological and environmental intelligence in the interview portion.

Since 2008, Miss Philippines-Earth has broadened its coverage to include candidates from various provinces, cities, and municipalities. The decision to transform Miss Philippines Earth in a larger-scale was made to further the cause of Miss Philippines Earth and with more participants involved, Carousel Productions would be able to reach more people and communities involved in its environmental advocacy. The reigning titleholders dedicate their year to promote environmental projects and to address issues concerning the environment. They also serve as spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations. The grand winner will represent Philippines in Miss Earth pageant.
