Miss Bohol Tourism 1977: Antonette Biloy

Antonette during her college days
CERTIFIED CAMPUS CHARMER

Your Roving Eye had the most pleasant surprise of his life last July 21, 2017 during Jun Biloy & Shirmie Cuadra’s wedding when he finally met one of DWCT’s certified campus headturners during the late 70’s, Antonette Biloy.

Antonette happens to be the groom’s older sibling.

For pageant historians and DWCT old- timers, Antonette Biloy represented the then DWCT (Divine Word College- Tagbilaran) now HNU (Holy Name University) in the 1977 Most Beautiful Boholana Pageant.

1977 MISS BOHOL TOURISM

The said beauty title was one of the many appellations that the Miss Bohol pageant adopted during its 91 year history. Antoniette was eventually named the 1977 Miss Bohol- Tourism (equivalent to 1st Runner Up) to Miss Tagbilaran City, Ellen Campbell.

FORTY FABULOUS YEARS

It has been exactly 40 years when she competed in the 1977 edition of Miss Bohol and Antoniette still looks as lovely as the day represented her school in the province- wide pageant.  I was so glad and relieved that she graciously accepted my request for a short interview and a quick photo opp.

She has been based in Manila for quite some time now and has been blessed with three girls and a boy who are all professionals now. A CPA by profession, she was connected with the finance department of a big private company.

She has since then retired from her job and currently enjoys her retirement and her two grandchildren.

1977 Most Beautiful Boholana: Ellen Campbell

 Miss Tagbilaran City Ellen Campbell
in the Shorts Competition

It was year 1977 and the most anticipated social event that year was the glittering search for The Most Beautiful Boholana of the Year.

It was the second year of the pageant and the year before that, a lovely socialite and comely coed named Lou Minoza who represented Divine Word College became the first winner of the pageant

Thirty- four of the most beautiful and accomplished young women of the province mostly coming from the most socially- prominent families had been chosen to represent their respective municipalities, the capital city, colleges & universities, socio- civic clubs and business organizations.

During the Coronation Night held at the Divine Word College, then the venue of choice for the biggest & most important events in the city and the province, there was an overflow crowd that came to cheer for their respective bets.

During those Golden Years of Pageantry in Bohol, it was not uncommon for the candidates' townmates to come in busloads just to lend their moral support and make their presence felt during the quite long pageant that sometimes dragged on until the wee hours of the morning

PAGEANT HIGHLIGHTS:

The candidates first came out in shorts (swimsuits were a big NO then for conservative Boholanas) then in evening gowns.

From 34 ladies, the field was whittled down to 15 semi- finalists before the final seven were called. The Top Seven were Miss Jagna, Miss Rotary Club, Miss Tagbilaran City, Miss Divine Word College, Miss Tubigon, Miss Garcia- Hernandez and Miss Loon
