Quota International Sets Joint Regional Meeting in Bohol

For the very first time, Quota International, a non-profit organization that empowers women, children, the deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired in local communities around the world, will hold its national convention in Bohol with no less than the majestic Bellevue Resort in Panglao opening its doors to welcome close to 300 delegates from around the country and officers from abroad on April 23- 25, 2015

Asked why Bohol as the venue, June Herrera-Chiongbian, the winsome PRO of the host club bared

“ Every year, we hold conventions as part of developing and promoting international understanding. This year, instead of holding it in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, our club - Quota International of Cebu South, appealed to have it in Bohol as part of our continuing effort in promoting the economy and tourism in the province after being affected by a strong earthquake.

Quota Club was one of the first few private organizations who have responded, organized relief operations and embarked on numerous rehabilitation projects especially for the children. The club is composed of men and women  from business, education, medicine, government service & entertainment.”

Founded in 1919, Quota International is one of the oldest international service organizations for women.  Today, more than 5,600 men, women, and youth in North America, South America, the Caribbean, South Pacific, Southeast Asia, and Europe are changing lives in 269 communities in 12 countries.

Quota’s motto, “We Share,” empowers members to develop friendships, encourage others, and promote international understanding. Quota is known especially for service empowering women and children and to people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired. 

The Philippines is composed of 2 regions - Region 18 and 19 with a total of 23 clubs. Region 18 is headed by Regional Director Bernadette Galang of Quota Pampanga while Region 19 is headed by Ms. Consuelo Garcia of Quota Cebu.

How Alona Beach In Panglao Got Its Name

CIRCA 1973: Esteban starring FPJ and Alona Alegre

Bohol was placed in the national map back in 1973 when Fernando Poe Jr shot the movie "Esteban” right here in Bohol.

In that movie, FPJ played a man who became blind in an injury caused by the marauding bandits. 

  

Max Alvarado played the role of bandits' leader. In the latter part of the said film, FPJ's eyesight returned. Baclayon Church became his sanctuary and refuge when he encountered  the same bandits.

Esteban was the same film where legendary sex symbol Alona Alegre would be seen frolicking and cavorting in a stretch of a virginal white sandy beach in Tawala, Panglao, Bohol.

At that time, Alona Beach didn't have a formal name except that it was situated in Brgy. Tawala, Panglao.

According to my VRS who begged off from being quoted, he and his group of friends were in the beach at the time that the movie was being filmed and in fact, they saw Alona Alegre make her mark (answered the call of nature) behind one of the coconut palms by the beach.

At that time, there were no tourist facilities let alone a private toilet.

So when the FPJ movie crew asked for the name of the beach, they readily chorused" Alona Beach" and the name stuck.

The beach now famously known as Alona Beach is considered as the crowning jewel of Bohol's booming tourism industry and is home to some of the best resorts in the province

So who is Alona Alegre?

Alona Alegre (born 1948) is the daughter of comedian actor Lou Salvador and LVN actress Inday Jalandoni

She is the younger sister of fellow actor Philip Salvador and the late Lou Salvador Jr.
