40 the Band to rock Coclea Lounge Bar Concert Grounds

Tonight, January 26, 8 pm, Cebu’s iconic 40 The Band will be performing for one night only at Coclea along Seaside Mansasa. Dubbed “Live & Loud”, 4o the Band will be dishing out the best pop, cool & new rock from the 80’s, 90’s and today’s hottest hits.
40 the Band tonight at Coclea Lounge Bar Concert Grounds

The mere mention of the “40 The Band” immediately whisks me off to those halcyon days in the late  80’s in Cebu when we would slam dance to the band’s music at the Shakey’s Mango Avenue branch over pitchers of ice cold beer. Those were the days when we kissed the hallowed ground they tread on.

THE EARLY DAYS. Evolving with the local music industry for the past 33 years, the band has established itself as an icon in the local music industry. They started out in April 1986, playing for Shakey’s Pizza Parlor as the house band with original members namely, Alvin Chiong, Lyndon Banzon, Troy Degamo, Jonathan Tiu, Vincent Avanzado, Madelaine Fernandez, and Arnold Ang. By then, they decided to call themselves 40 due to the fact that their music was much influenced by the Irish band U2 thus, they named themselves after the hit single “40” from the “War” album of the said band.

THE RISE OF THE NEW CEBU MUSIC MOVEMENT. They later made it big by being part of The New Cebu Music Movement in 1989. Remember the catch phrases “Loud & Proud” and “Local Vocal”? They made their mark with the release of their hit singles “Rain” and “What I Say”. They’ve been playing in different islands of the Philippine archipelago which include Bohol, Cagayan, Ozamis, Butuan, Ormoc, and Manila. Though they remained mainly local, they have gained following from music lovers all throughout the country. Since the start, they have performed in special events and bar tours.

The band was also nominated to the first ever San Miguel Beer Music Awards which was held in Cebu. Their music has gone forward to adapt to the echo of generations. The band is presently composed of Arnold Ang, Pong Chiong, Roy Llanes, Troy Degamo, and Lyndon Banzon.

40 The Band: Live & Loud is brought to you by Coclea Lounge Bar, F CafĂ© & Bar, San Miguel Brewery Inc. & KISS 102.3 FM, This is one musical gig that you shouldn’t miss for their music transcends generations.

With three special awards, Karen has now been installed as one of the top favorites for the Miss Intercontinental crown which has been very elusive to the Filipina bets.  The closest we had to winning was the 1st Runner Up finish of both Katarina Rodriguez last year and Christi Lynn Mc Garry back in 2015.

Shall we see the crowning of a Boholana as the first Filipina Miss Intercontinental?

We shall find out this Saturday, January 26 at the Mall of Asia Arena

Angelique Kaye @ 18

Marking a milestone like the recent 18th birthday bash of Angelique Kaye “Baday” Lugod, daughter of good friends Gerry Lugod and Karen Betsy Lugod has a way of making people feel a little bit jaded and old. It seemed like only yesterday when Baday was just a precocious baby girl who was full of mischief  and suddenly she has become this lissome lady who is ready to take on the world. At a svelte 5' 6" tall, she just might take an interest in pageantry or modeling. Who knows?

Your Roving Eye got a bit misty- eyed seeing how she grown up to be a level- headed and grounded child who is a source of pride for both sides of the family.

Alexis & Vi- anne Calipusan Renew their Marriage Vows

HOW IT ALL STARTED It was Sandugo 1999 when their paths crossed at a very auspicious time. Call it fate, destiny or serendipity but it was an encounter that was meant to be. She just won the Lin- ay sang Negros beauty title, a prestigious province- wide pageant in Negros Occidental (equivalent to Miss Bohol in scope and prestige) and was in Bohol to visit relatives and what better way to do it than during the Sandugo Festival.

After a friend excitedly told him of the presence of a beautiful girl during one of the Sandugo events, the guy immediately sought her out and as he told the enthralled guests during their reception, he saw not a beautiful girl but a super duper beautiful girl. Not one to miss a beat, he did what every proper gentleman would do. Get to meet her through her mom, and as they say, the rest is history.

THE RENEWAL OF VOWS Just a couple of days before the world bade goodbye to year 2018, Alexis Calipusan, son of erstwhile Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan and socio- civic leader Baby Collins, and Vi- anne Cadianza, daughter of Wilfredo & Eva Cadianza, renewed their marriage vows in the presence of their children Emiko & Eileithyia, family & friends at the posh Henann Resort in Alona Beach, Panglao.
With Fr. Christopher B. Ligason, the bride’s cousin
Amidst the ohs and ahs of resort guests, tourists and kibitzers, the beautiful couple reaffirmed their vows made 10 years ago in St. Jude Parish Church in Bacolod City.

OF MUSIC. MAGIC. MEMORIES & MEMENTOS
The reception that followed at the spacious banquet hall of Henann Resort & Convention Center was like no other. The guests were welcomed to the cocktail area and reception area with live upbeat music from a musical group.

Everyone feasted not only on the scrumptious canapĂ©s, side dishes and the main dishes as well but also on the live entertainment dished out by the angelic voices of the world- class Loboc Children’s Choir, the awesome showmanship of Loboc Youth Ambassadors, the mesmerizing vocal stylings of the Singing Priests of Tagbilaran and the party music from Interact Band that came all the way from Cebu City.

Alex and Vi- anne have a lot to be thankful for the ten years of togetherness; two wonderful treasures, thriving & successful careers, and a love & commitment that has withstood the hands of time.

Here’s to the next ten years and beyond! Cheers!

WATER CANNON SALUTE Your Roving Eye was able to witness the water cannon salute, a time- honored & touching airport tradition that honors military veterans, foreign dignitaries and in this case, a new airline service. The salute, a sign of respect, honor & gratitude involved two firefighting rigs spraying arcs of water over the arriving flight and lasted for about a couple of minutes.

“We are excited to commence operation of our newest route in Bohol. As we expand our fleet and our route network, we look forward to supporting economic growth in the province of Bohol through tourism and logistics support,”
