What I Learned After Attending a Meeting with the Bohol Toastmasters Club

Your Roving Eye just couldn’t say NO to Ms. Daphne Onque Pineda, former colleague in the teaching profession and co- adviser of the school paper, when she extended the invite to attend their Valentine’s- themed meeting yesterday at the 29th M Street Café.

It turned out to be a fun & interactive learning activity where laughter and smiles were served in generous heaps. You could feel the communal spirit of sharing and the rays of optimism were streaming in like sunshine. Yes, I definitely felt most welcome.

Do you want to become a confident public speaker and strong leader and meeting like- minded people? If so, Toastmasters is the place for you. You’ll find a supportive learn-by-doing environment that allows you to achieve your goals at your own pace.

If you see public speaking as a way to effect changes and affect how people think, feel and share in a positive way and not an opportunity to swagger and to be cocky, then this is the organization for you.
Contrary to what many people think, the Toastmasters Club does not limit itself to people who have been bestowed the gift of gab although with what I had seen and heard during that meeting was a treasure trove of individuals who had the potential in public speaking.

Who Were the Stars During the Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2015 Press Presentation?

You know it’s summer when everyone is heading off to the beach, when the demand for thirst- quenchers skyrocket and of course when beauty pageants heat up the already sizzling days of summer.

Speaking of beauty pageants, Your Roving Eye attended the 2014 Mutya sa Tagbilaran Press Presentation held at the Café Dolores, Bohol Tropics Resort just recently and I must say that I’m impressed. This is Mayor Baba Yap’s sophomoric handling of the pageant and yet one can see how the girls are highly- regarded and taken care of by the organizing team headed by First Lady Jane Censoria C. Yap.

POLISHED PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS Except for Ms Poblacion I who was graduating that afternoon & Ms Ubujan who sprained her back after a rehearsal, the rest of the 15 girls who represented their respective barangays introduced themselves & generally, acquitted themselves quite well during the Q & A with Bohol’s media.  The Bohol Toastmasters Club headed by City Information Officer Fiel Angeli Araoarao- Gabin and a quondam beauty queen herself being Miss Tagbilaran 1987 took charge with the public speaking enhancement sessions of the girls & judging from the way the girls parried the questions, they did a great job.

STANDOUTS

After seeing the girls really up close, hearing them talk & comparing notes with fellow Bohol media practitioners, Your Roving Eye believes that the strongest contenders are the girls from Pob II, Manga, Dampas, Dao & Cogon.
Poblacion 2                                       Dao

  Dampas                                  Manga                                       Cogon
The list which is based solely on the girls’ performance during the press presentation can still change though and with three more weeks to go, anything can still happen before Your Roving Eye comes up with his Fearless Forecast on who will succeed Geraldine Topsnik.
