A Whole New World for Maxine Nayeli G. Yu

When a family’s firstborn turns a year old, it is a cause for celebration. With a nod to the Arabic roots of her name Maxine Nayeli which literally means greatest blessing, proud parents Neil Orven & Maureen Jade decided on an Arabian Nights theme for the thanksgiving dinner & kiddie party and had the grand ballroom of MetroCentre Hotel transformed into an enchanting Arabian palace complete with carpet and belly dancers.

Here are some photos from the birthday bash

Eva Rueber- Staier Marks Her Golden Anniversary as Miss World 1969

Miss World 1969: Eva Rueber- Staier

This year, we mark the golden anniversary of Eva Rueber- Staier’s crowning as Miss World 1969.

The long- legged blue- eyed blonde from Austria first competed for the 1969 Miss Universe title which our very own Gloria Diaz won.

Eva created a stir at the Miss Universe Pageant when she was asked who she thought was the world’s most influential leader and she responded “Mao Tse Tung”.

She was adjudged one of the Ten Best in Swimsuit and placed among the top 15 semifinalists.

After the Miss Universe Pageant, the 18 year old Eva Rueber- Staier of Austria competed later in London that year for the Miss World crown which she won handily after besting a field of 50 candidates.
Eva made it as Miss Universe 1969 Top Ten Best in Swimsuit.

She parlayed her beauty title into a successful modeling career, TV and movie career that included playing the recurring role of Rublevitch, General Gogol’s  assistant in three James Bond films, namely; The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy.
