Rotarian Angelina Vidas Hoffman was installed as the 43rd president of the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran District 3960 Zone 1F during its Induction of Officers & Governor's Ball. 

She is the dynamic lady behind Panglao Tropical Villas in Panglao Island, Bohol

Here's the speech of Rtn. Angie which outlined her year as club president:

 Engage Rotary, Change Lives

Thank you to my dear son Johnny for the splendid introduction

Fellow Rotarians, ladies and gentlemen

It is an absolute honour and privilege for me to stand before all of you tonight as I declare that Yes, I accept the not only the presidency of the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran for Rotary Year 2013- 2014 but also the big responsibility that comes with it

Every year, we eagerly and excitedly wait as newly- inducted Rotary Club presidents from all over the world deliver their acceptance speeches. We are made to believe that these speeches are called as such because it means an acceptance of the duties and obligations that come with the position.

But I realize that this is not an acceptance speech. I would rather call it an acknowledgement message. Yes, my acknowledgement of your acceptance of me as the president of the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran for the new Rotary Year. 

This is also the perfect opportunity for me to say Thank You to all of you fellow Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran for the trust and confidence you have given me and for believing that I can lead the club in the next 12 months. (pause)

And today, as the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran enters the Rotary Year 2013- 2014 with a new set of leadership, I would like everyone to pause and reflect on our new Rotary theme which is to “Engage Rotary, Change Lives”

Three simple yet powerful words that are attached to the iconic word Rotary. To engage the Rotary is to involve the Rotary. By involving the Rotary and invoking what it means to be in Rotary, we will be inspired to influence through service in order to change lives

Indeed, to engage the Rotary is to change lives. Our Rotary theme for 2013 -14 is deceptively simple and yet it is because of its simplicity that it stands out as a stark reminder for what Rotary really is.

I would like to quote Rotary International President Ron Burton when he said:

“If we really want to take Rotary service forward, then we must make sure that every single Rotarian has the same feeling about Rotary that each one of us here has today,”

We need to make sure that every Rotarian has a meaningful role to play, that they’re all making a contribution, and that their contribution is valued.” unquote

There is a saying about two heads being better than one but I firmly believe that in Rotary especially in the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran, it should be ALL heads are better than one

Therefore, I am counting on you fellow Rotarians and guests for support so we can achieve the growth and goals we have dreamt for not only for our club for also for the entire district

By the way, I have a confession to make. I have been spending a lot of sleepless nights, tossing and turning on my bed wondering what words to say and finally the day has arrived and I am standing in front of you.

And now as I look at all of you from where I stand, I have come to realize that with the enormity and the crucial role that the club president will be playing, I will be spending more sleepless nights//

But with the grace of God and with full support and cooperation of fellow Rotarians, I am confident that I can carry out my obligations and duties and lead our club in our mission and journey to engage each and every Rotarian and non- Rotarians in order to change lives 

It will be my privilege to carry out the Dengue- Free Philippines Movement. And to prove that we mean what we say and we say what we mean, a tri- sector Larvicide Campaign will be launched in August with Tagbilaran City as the Pilot Area.

We will also be continuing our signature club project which focuses on the traffic safety campaign for school children

Aside from conducting various medical- dental & surgical missions that we do every year, we are also thinking of doing a Health Care Camp & Health is Wealth education campaign as well

A few high- profile fund- raising projects that will not only draw attention to our projects but also support and implement our community service projects

But all of these proposed projects would remain as mere proposals and dreams if we will be passive and indifferent.

So fellow Rotarians, let us get engaged so we can change lives  not only by building the skills and confidence of individual Rotary members but also by discovering, nurturing and enhancing the ability of the community to grow and overcome life’s challenges.

Let us help them to help themselves. This is how Rotary and the community engage and succeeds.

   

In closing, may I congratulate Immediate Past President Jocelyn Suarez, fellow members of the board, (names) and all the members of the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran. Let us give them a round of applause for a job well done.

It is my fervent hope that you’d give me the same amount of support in the coming year.

Finally, my most sincere congratulations & salute to fellow incoming club officers and directors as we engage the Rotary starting NOW so we can be the agents of change for the community around us and continue being in Service above Self
