Bohol's Wedding & Events Industry Organizes its Own Group

The long- cherished dream to organize the individual service providers of Bohol's weddings and events industry was finally realized early this year.

Official Logo

Who would have thought that it would take a pandemic to spur the industry to support and help one another by banding together through an organization that would be recognized and supported by both private and public sectors.

As Bohol slowly eased up on the restrictions, as economic activities were revived and as borders reopened, bes.ph, Bohol's biggest group of event professionals came into being.

BES.Ph (Bohol Event Suppliers PH) is composed of planners, coordinators, florists, hair & make-up artists, program hosts & event emcees, designers, boutique owners, music & dance entertainers, light & sound providers, meal caterers, modeling agents & handlers,  photographers & videographers.

SET OF OFFICERS

Led by its founding president,  Chandrina Elluiska Wallace, the group's officers were inducted by Gov. Art Yap at the Bohol Provincial Capitol.

The rest of the officers are: VP INTERNAL: John Gudmalin, VP EXTERNAL: Lister Dela Cruz, SECRETARY Drake Bustrillos ASST SECRETARY Ferome Jusgorge Almine TREASURER Kim Villamor ASST TREASURER Prince Paul Ranara AUDITOR Joseph Ray Aguinaldo ASST AUDITOR Deonico Guden

PR OFFICERS Jay Angelia, Girlie Soria, Marvin Bantigue & Amabelle Milallos

BOARD OF DIRECTOR Janrey Cadelina, Ryan Sadudaquil, Roger Magtagad, Christian Barrete, John Vincent Mercado, Michael Yu & Raul Gatal

THE REASON FOR BEING

The group's president (known as Chan Chan  to  ndustry insiders and clients) , shared that the group was organized primarily to give every member a voice to be heard, help upgrade, standardize and professionalize industry practices.

At the same time, to strengthen and help the members especially during the pandemic which adversely affected the industry.

In addition, with the implementation of new protocols and safety measures, the industry will police itself and guide the members on the conduct of events under the new normal.

It was a most romantic occasion made more memorable with the sun that dazzled and the bright blue sky that served as the awesome canopy that day.

It was not just an event. It was the silver wedding anniversary for US- based couple Evelyn Moralde & Roberto “Dodong” Lamanilao who, together with their kids Lara and Anna Marie, flew home to renew their lifetime vows before God, family and friends at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral.

Almost everyone of their original principal sponsors were there like Hon. Eufrasio Mascariňas & Dr. Yolanda Mascariňas, Judge Daniel Bernaldez & Hon. Delia Lasco, Mr. Martin Alcano & Mrs. Nora Alcano, Mr. Raul de Vera & Mrs. Monina de Vera which added the nostalgic ambience of the celebration.

The Lamanilao family received their guests at the Sandugo Ballroom of Bohol Tropics Resort for a fun and exciting reception. It was amazing how the couple gave their wedding reception a Filipino touch through their event styling design which incorporated elements of Philippine arts & culture.

Jason & Bam: Their Love Story

Although Bam was the quiet and reserved type, she was a campus figure who made heads turn. She eventually came out of her shell, joined Miss Bohol where she was named Best in Swimsuit and made it as top finalist.

Jason was the smart guy who loves algebra yet he was the gregarious and sociable type who had a lot of friends. He was drawn to her quiet demeanor and she to his brains and friendly ways.

So how did the two end up as lovers and who will be exchanging lifetime vows before God, family and friends on November 18?

Here’s their story as  shared by the bride herself:
“It was back in 2006 when we first met. We were both freshmen students at Holy Name University.  We were classmates in various subjects. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight but more like destiny. In fact, it was our mutual friends who played Cupid by trying to find a way for him to get my phone number.
 The couple: Then & Now
Unfortunately, my mobile phone wasn’t working that time so he had to wait patiently until he would be able to reach out. I was surprised one day when I got a text message from him and from then on we started communicating. The casual and friendly hi’s and hellos became more serious and took a deeper tone. We became lovers and best friends at the same time. “
Beautiful pre- nup photo
Those years in college were some of the best in our lives until graduation day came. Jason had to leave Bohol and follow his family in Manila for good. I went to Cebu to look for a job so we had this long distance relationship thing for four years. We knew that it wouldn’t be easy. We’ve been through a lot of odds in our relationship and our love was tested but we proved to each other that it’s worth it. Distance taught us the definition of patience, devotion and commitment.
In 2013, I decided to go abroad to seek for better opportunities and after a year of work, we realized that we both wanted to be near each other and so Jason followed me to Singapore. Finally, the long distance affair and the long wait were over.
The surprise proposal

Ten years after we first met, Jason surprised me with a sweet proposal over dinner in a restaurant in Thailand where we had our vacation. It was indeed an evening that was totally unforgettable. I was crying the whole time not only because it was so unexpected but also because it’s every girl’s dream to be married to the guy they’re in love with.

After everything that we’ve been through, we can now look back onto our experiences in life and truly say “we survived”.

Jemar & Maria Luz: Loving Thy Neighbor

They followed God’s commandment “Love Thy Neighbor” literally. After all, they were neighbors who fell in love when they were both in high school.

Jemar & Luz: First & Last
Many skeptics thought it was just puppy love and would just peter out. But no way Jose!  Jemar Paga and Maria Luz Manito who became sweethearts in July 21, 2005 or exactly 11 years ago decided to tie the knot on the day of their 11th anniversary. Jemar proposed to Luz on July 21, 2015 ten years after they became an item.

A scene straight from a romance drama film

Both Jemar & Luz came home from Singapore for the most romantic day of their lives. Fr. Vengie Laguros was the officiating priest when the lovers became one at the IHMS and entertained their guests at the Bohol Tropics Resort.

We Remember the 7.2 Bohol Quake Today

A significant milestone for Your Blogger and an important day of remembering for Boholanos will usher in October 15, 2015

Our Lady of Assumption Church, Dauis, Bohol
Today, Your Blogger gets to post his 1,000th blog feature. Yes, it’s true! A thousand posts since Your Blogger started his blog three years ago, on September 13, 2012 so that means an average of one post a day. Not bad at all for someone who’s not exactly known for writing great prose.

Today, we join fellow Boholanos in a day of remembrance for the day that was when the 7.2 Bohol temblor struck Bohol at around 8 in the morning. Thank God, the death toll was not that high. On hindsight, we have our brother Muslims to thank for since the entire country observed the Islam holiday Eid Al-Fitr. Imagine if there were classes and work that fateful day.

Exactly two years ago, we had pre- nuptial photo session for soon- to- be- wed Borgy and Glenda at the breathtakingly beautiful Our Lady of Assumption Church in Dauis, Bohol. We never had an inkling that something would jolt and disrupt lives that very day. Who would have thought? It was such a bright & beautiful day. Nothing could possibly mess up with our shoot. Everyone was in high spirits when we headed off to Dauis.

Upon arrival, the photo and video crew members of ace photographer Dennis Saco of CIO Photography immediately started to set up their equipment. Hair & make up maven Kim Villamor & assistant Girlie were sorting out the gowns and accessories plus their hair & make up set.

We decided to start the shoot at Café Lawis at the back of the church since there was a necrological mass going on.

Just a few minutes before the photo shoot would commence, it happened. Click  HERE for the story.

During those harrowing days after the earthquake and after super typhoon Yolanda slammed the Visayas region, stories of heroism & selflessness soon started to surface. In between, random acts of scam artists also came out.

Those were trying moments for Boholanos but we were able to bounce back not only because of our resilience but also because of our strong unwavering faith in God and trusting in the innate goodness of man.

Jomar & Majoy: Blissfully in Love

Call it persistence or patience but Your Blogger would rather tag it as pure love. You see, it took quite a few years before the groom could muster the courage to tell the girl about his intentions.
Mr. & Mrs. Jomar Torreon

He was from the University of Bohol and she was from Holy Name University and in fact, she was under my English 1 class when she was a freshman Psychology student.

It had to be destiny that they were fated to meet when they were both assigned at the Bureau of Jail Management & Penology Regional Office, Cebu City.

 Dreamy Bohol photo shoot

Friendship turned into something deeper and he won her heart and impressed her family when he showed up at their house in Taloto to ask for their approval and blessings.

Their long engagement culminated in their exchange of lifetime vows on September 19, 2015 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, Taloto, Tagbilaran City.

And so congratulations to Jose Jomar Torreon and best wishes to my former student Maria Jessa "Majoy" Bayron on their wedding !

John & Joyce: Here's Their Paean for Love!

It was just how Joyce & John wanted their wedding at Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Songculan, Dauis to be. Intimate, romantic and solemn.
  Jubilant newlyweds John & Joyce
Joyce happens to be the Makati & overseas- trained Boholana dermatologist and daughter of Emma & the late Julius Castillo while John, an HNU Medical Center Foundation Inc. staff nurse, is the son of Engr Juanito and Grace Anino.

Priyanka Heart U. Castillo
  &  Bianca M. Tasker
Their modern Filipiniana- themed wedding is still being talked about for being ground- breaking, so to speak, in so many ways. For starters, fresh blooms were conspicuously absent from the event styling to the bride’s bouquet.
 Bridal Bouquet
For her bouquet, paper roses, peonies, trick carns, mums, with the traditional "gungi" stick decor from the olden times fashioned from coconut midribs and paper, and buri fibers

A Herculean task but the creative duo of Boy Dumadag & Michael Yu of Blue Grass Project, incidentally in Japan right now as RP’s bets to the 2015 International Flower Show, was up to the task.

Finally, the wedding paved the way for labels and dictates on societal norms to be discarded as far as traditional roles in weddings were concerned.  Hats off to the forward- thinking couple
