Destiny, Luck & Timing Worked in Favor of Pauline

She was destined to become Miss Bohol. That unforgettable night last July 22, the stars aligned in her favor and won over the stunning Gazini Ganados, one of the most popular girls to ever compete in Miss Bohol pageant history.

Did you know that the newly- crowned Miss Bohol 2017 almost didn’t get the chance to compete in the province’s most prestigious beauty competition? You see, two years ago, competed in Anyag sa Tubigon 2015, her town’s official preliminary pageant for Miss Bohol.

Your Roving Eye with Pauline during Anyag sa Tubigon 2015

She was raw having no prior pageant experience before the Anyag pageant but she had potential for she was witty and very engaging. The 5'9" half- Belgian beauty eventually finished as 1st RU to Olive Zoilo in Anyag sa Tubigon 2015. Ms. Zoilo who recently passed the CPA board exams was Miss Talent and 3rd RU in last year’s Miss Bohol Pageant.

Pauline & Olive, the last two girls for the Anyag crown await the results
Pauline was convinced by Anyag sa Tubigon pageant organizers and mentors to represent her town this year and she was more than ready having been trained by Tubigon’s formidable team of pageant experts & mentors.

The rest as they say, is pageant history. So girls, never ever think that your journey towards the crown has ended just because you didn't make it the first time. Who knows, Lady Luck might be smiling at you the next time around. Cheers!

Why Tubigon is Currently the Beauty Capital of Bohol

Celebrating nine years of beauty & glamour, Anyag sa Tubigon crowned its 2016 queen last May 15 with another remarkable Tubignon lady who epitomizes beauty, brains & breeding. The pageant was organized in order to serve as a training ground for its young ladies to showcase their potentials and their talents. The organizers’ hard work and determination paid off when it rejoined Miss Bohol again in 2010 after a decade of non- participation.

Anyag sa Tubigon 2016 is....
The northern gateway to Bohol Tubigon struck gold when its bet Amir Sol emerged as Miss Bohol in 2010. Tubigon achieved a rare back-to-back victory when its bet Farah Mian clinched the crown in 2011. Mariecris Evardo placed 1st RU in 2012. The town missed the 2013 edition after its bet didn’t push through with her participation. In 2014, its bet Jaya Lozanowas named 3rd RU. Last year’s bet Clarlaine Radoc emerged 2nd RU

Indeed, the town’s impressive record in the annual Miss Bohol Pageant which is the opening salvo & glamorous highlight of the annual month- long Sandugo Festival is no easy feat. The current decade is shaping up to be the town’s Golden Age in Bohol Pageantry.

THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

Q & A workshop

Less than a decade after its inception, Tubigon is now reaping its just rewards. So what’s the secret for their remarkable success rate in Miss Bohol? According to Dennis Balbero& Jason Martinote, the Anyag sa Tubigon Pageant gives the official candidates several seminars and workshops, some intended to enhance their physical beauty while others are conducted to develop their character and values.

They are also exposed to different activities such as eco-tours and tree planting to instill in them a love of nature and concern for the environment. Moreover, these candidates are made to attend social functions such as company visits to hone their confidence in dealing with other people.

The pageant organizers also devote a year to groom, train & polish their winners before they are fielded in the province- wide pageant.

When interviewed by Your Roving Eye, the 20 year old Jean who recently acquired her BS Accountancy degree admitted to feeling the pressure but she is more than ready to carry her town’s banner this July.

FIERCE & FABULOUS: Jean Olive Zoilo is Tubigon’s Miss Bohol 2016 bet

Anyag sa Tubigon 2015 Casual Interview

Anyag sa Tubigon always places a premium on the Q & A segments. After all, the eventual winners are expected to be spokespersons for the advocacy projects that the pageant has adopted. This year, Your Blogger was invited to co- host the pageant and was assigned with the two rounds of interviews.
The first round of interviews came in two parts: the casual chit chat where the questions were based on the girls’ biodata. For the second part, the questions were submitted by the girls themselves.

Here are the 12 candidates as they showed a bit of their personalities and expressed their opinions on matters ranging from matters of the heart to future plans & career goals.

Jean Olive Zoilo is Anyag sa Tubigon 2015

BATTLE OF BEAUTY, BRAINS & BREEDING

Tanda sa Tubigon 2015 recently marked its Silver anniversary since its founding in 1990. Aside from its succulent & fresh seafood and sumptuous Filipino fiesta favorites, Tubigon is also renowned for its festive, entertaining & spectacular productions.

Also known as one of Bohol’s bedrocks for culture & the arts, the bustling seaport town, as usual, did not disappoint when it staged its twinbill centerpiece offerings: Anyag sa Tubigon & the first- ever Ambongan sa Tubigon.

TWIN TIDBITS
There were two interesting things that I found about Anyag sa Tubigon Pageant. First, is the inclusion of the candidates’ professionalism and their conduct during the entire duration of the pageant in the pre- judging scores and second is the swimsuit competition or its absence as in the case of Anyag sa Tubigon which proved that pageants can still be crowd- drawers even without the requisite swimsuit segment.

Queen of the Night
Jason Barba Martinote, pageant chair, revealed that the decision is in deference to the event’s reason for its being which is the fiesta in honor of St. Isidor de Labrador.

Your Blogger with eventual winner
Your Blogger was invited to co- host the Anyag pageant specifically to handle the Q & A segments. Dennis Balbero directed the fast- paced two hour show that gave the spotlight to the 12 candidates. After the club wear, evening gowns & casual interviews, the field was trimmed to the final five.

FINAL FIVE

Last Two Standing
One final common question sealed the fate of the ladies. It was a thrilling down-to-the- wire finish for the morena charmer Jean Olive Zoilo & the bubbly & spontaneous half- Belgian stunner Pauline Amelinckx.

ANYAG &HER COURT
In the end, it was Jean Olive Zoilo, a svelte and stunning 19 year old Accountancy student, who prevailed & Pauline was named 1st RU. Rounding out the Top Five were 2nd RU Jay Lucille Pastor, 3rd RU Frenzis Bustamante & 4th RU Micel Damarillos.

Pageant Hosts: Haydee Centinales- Cabasan & Kris Nimrod Cabigas
A big factor in the show's success was the excellent tandem of ABS CBN Cebu’s “Mag TV Na” host Kris Nimrod Cabigas whose energy & enthusiasm certainly kept everyone glued to the pageant & the elegant & cool demeanor of Ms. Haydee Centinales- Cabasan.

 Farewell Walk for Jaya Lozano

Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto crowned the winner together with Tubigon Mayor Marlon Amila, First Lady Anjeanette Amila & outgoing Anyag 2014 Jaya Lozano.

Thank You Tubigon for the invite!
