Miss Bohol 1990: Tiffany Matuod Yap

Miss Jagna is Miss Bohol 1990
As with the previous year, Miss Bohol 1990 was officially known as Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands to go with the Dept. of Tourism's two- year Fiesta Islands marketing campaign before it metamorphosed into Miss Bohol Sandugo in 1991.

The second & final edition of Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands Pageant was handled by the Bohol Confederation of Youth Organizations or BCYO, the same group that organized the very successful 1989 Campus Girl Search won coincidentally by Tiffany Matuod Yap.

Ricky Inting, one of the legendary dancers of his generation, choreographed and directed the pageant. Your Roving Eye and Ms. Leni Ingking were assigned the emceeing job.

Who can forget the former Tiffany Matuod Yap, daughter of Engr. Abraham Yap and Corazon Matuod, a pageant neophyte who won two very important Bohol- based beauty titles?

Tiffany would always be remembered for winning the Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands crown in a dramatic come- from- behind fashion.

With her second beauty title, she was able to silence her skeptics and had proven that her Campus Girl victory was neither fluke nor a luck-of-the draw.

She was to win the first of three Miss Bohol crowns for Jagna in three consecutive years; 1990, 1991 and 1992. To date, the municipality of Jagna still holds the record of being the only LGU in Bohol to achieve the distinction.

Your Roving Eye's first Miss Bohol emceeing stint

During the 10th year anniversary of Miss Bohol Sandugo in July 2000, Tiffany Yap- Glarino and Winnie M. Lim- Ventulan, 1989 Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands title holder who were both invited for the pageant milestone were properly acknowledged moments before the coronation of the new titleholder.

The 1st Runner Up, Marivic Labado would later be crowned Miss Cebu Doctors College that year and make it the following year as a member of Penshoppe Circle- Batch 1991, then the country's most prestigious modeling search for image models. I would always remember Tiffany for her charming disposition and almost child- like shyness. During rehearsals, she would just stay in one corner, read her books and notes which she always carried with her.

On a personal note, this pageant would be very memorable to me for this was to be the first of so many emceeing honors for future editions of Miss Bohol Sandugo.

Who would have known that I would still be hosting the pageant twenty years after its launching?

Tiffany has retained her beauty queen look two decades after winning her 1989 Campus Girl- Bohol title and her 1990 Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands crown

90's Favorite Miss Bohol Sandugo Titlists

That's me hosting the first ever Miss Sandugo Pageant in 1990
The 90's decade ushered the birth of the Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant, the highlight of the annual Sandugo Festival that celebrates the Blood Compact between Datu Sikatuna and Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legaspi

The pageant enjoyed its heyday during the 90's and drew jampacked crowds not only from the capital city of Tagbilaran but also from the participating towns from all over Bohol.

Hosting the first Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant meant not only a place in Bohol pageantry historical data but also a validation that I was capable of hosting the most prestigious beauty competition in the province

Anyway, in a fun poll among my blog readers that would determine the favorite Miss Bohol Sandugo titleholders of the 90s's, two ladies tied for the top position

The first one is Tiffany Matuod Yap  who graduated with a BS Psychology degree from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City in 1996.

She is married to Glenn Glarino, a professor in Psychology at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City with whom she has three kids, namely; Frankl, 15, David, 13 and Aubrey, 3 years old.

Presently, she is an HR practitioner connected with Cebu Holdings Inc, a real estate company affiliated with Ayala Land

In a tie with Tiffany as favorite Miss Bohol Sandugo titleholder for the 90's decade is Vanessa Joyce Evardone

Bambi, as she is known to family and friends, has always wanted to be a doctor since she was a child.

After graduating from medical school in 2002, she was granted a two- year post-graduate medical internship at UP-PGH (University of the Phillippines- Phil. General Hospital).

She chose to stay for internship in Cebu at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (formerly known as Southern Islands Hospital), a 1000-bed government-owned public hospital.

It was a year-long internship, and during our graduation I was awarded the Most Outstanding Post-Graduate Intern, and also awarded Most Outstanding in Pediatrics & Ophthalmology.

In 2004, she did not only take and pass the Philippine Licensure Examination for Physicians but also clinch 14th place in the nationwide professional board examinations.

She then flew to the United States where she had her residency training in Internal Medicine at Caritas Carney Hospital/Tufts University in Boston, Massachussets with medical ICU clinical rotation at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.

In 2009,  Bambi was awarded with Excellence in Teaching by the Tufts University Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts after being chosen by the Tufts University medical students for the award.

Presently, she is a hospitalist physician specializing in inpatient care of adult patients (co-manages surgical patients, medical ward patients, cardiac unit patients, post-anesthetic care patients and ICU/CCU patients), at one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the US, the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut.

She had been given a Press Ganey score of 100% based on Performance Excellence in Healthcare, belonging to the top score-holding medical doctors of the state of Connecticut and the entire United States.
