Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2022 Visits Umaya Restaurant

Patrons and kibitzers alike were thrown in a tizzy when the Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2022 candidates showed up at Liteport Center for a quick visit and lunch at Umaya Restaurant, Tagbilaran's premier Japanese restaurant.

Adding glamour to the occasion was the presence of the reigning Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2019 Celina Villoceno who is also the reigning Miss Bohol 2019

In an interview with Bohol's Roving Eye, Ms. Jane Bungabong, resto manager, shared that Umaya Restaurant which offers authentic Japanese dishes has always been supportive of Tagbilaran City events which bring together residents and visitors alike in a community celebration.

Mary Abigail Besas is Crowned the First Matahum sa Ubay!

It was a most glittering beauty pageant that had people in Ubay and neighboring towns talking about it for days.

A clear vindication for the newly- formed Performing Artists of Ubay (PAU) who were met with skepticism when they announced their intent to stage a pageant that would showcase not only the beauty & achievements of Ubaynon women but also the grace and artistry of outstanding Ubaynons in the creative, visual and performing artists.

Emceeing the Miss Bohol Pageant Through the Years

TWENTY- FIVE YEARS OF PAGEANT HOSTING

This year, Your Blogger will mark a milestone in his life. It will be 25 years since I hosted my very first beauty pageant. It was year 1989 and I was then the president of the English Club and the former Fiel Angeli Araoarao now Mrs. Gabin wa the vice- president.

FIRST PAGEANT HOSTING EXPERIENCE

We were both summoned to the Dean's Office where we got informed that we were to emcee the 1989 Miss College of Arts & Sciences Search of DWCT. I was both excited and nervous at the same time because I never had any prior hosting experience. I still remember that unforgettable night of the pageant when my calm and modulated voice belied the state of nervousness that I was in. In fact, both my hands were shaking when I was interviewing the girls onstage.

After that pageant, there was no looking back and to this day, I still consider myself lucky for having the best mentors like Ma’am Rose “Baby” Sarabosing and for being given the best breaks.

I would like to extend my most sincere thank you to the former winners of the Miss Bohol Pageant not only for the lifetime friendship but also for being gracious and kind enough to lend me their photos:

Miss Bohol Pageant's 10 Memorable Milestones

Almost 60 years after it crowned its first winner, the province’s most prestigious beauty competition has maintained the sparkle & prestige of its name.

As the pageant quietly drops the “Sandugo” appellation and reverts to being “Miss Bohol” as it was originally known during its early years, the Miss Bohol Pageant is expected to shine and glitter even more.  Here's the link for more on the change of name: Miss Bohol: New Name. New Direction

Bohol First Lady Pureza Chatto with four of the Miss Bohol girls
L-R: Ms Buenavista, Ms Tubigon, Ms Loon, FL Chatto & Ms BISU
With no less than Bohol First Lady Pureza Chatto, together with Tagbilaran City First Lady Jane Yap, at the helm, the pageant has also gathered some of Bohol’s most hardworking & creative set including its 2005 winner & 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World titleholder Anna Maris Igpit to ensure the grandest and most spectacular edition of the pageant this July.

With the 2014 edition of the Miss Bohol Pageant just around the corner, Your Blogger will now present ten significant highlights from the pageant’s glorious history that has spanned six decades

1957 The pageant crowned Olivia Solis, one of Bohol’s legendary beauties, on the same year that a Boholano became President of the Republic of the Philippines.
Olivia Solis
 Pres. Carlos P. Garcia
1983 Known as Miss Young Bohol that year, the pageant set the record for the most number of candidates. It attracted 38 candidates who represented the same number of city & municipal Kabataang Barangay federations that responded to the invitation of then KB Bohol Provincial Federation Chair Edgar M. Chatto.

All the girls were billeted at the air- conditioned Ilaw International Convention Center.

1988 Known as Mutya sa Bohol, the swimsuit finally made its first appearance in Miss Bohol history. Elizabeth Anana of Guindulman who was crowned the winner that year made pageant history as the first recipient of the Best in Swimsuit special award in Miss Bohol.
1991 Already known as the Miss Bohol Sandugo Pageant, that year’s edition marked the first and only time that the pageant finals were held in an outdoor venue. In fact, an open- air stage was specially constructed right in the middle of the CPG Sports Complex.

Miss Jagna Recelle Adlaon was able to duplicate townmate Tiffany Yap’s victory the previous year thus making Jagna the first town to achieve a back-to-back victory.

1992 Jagna set an unprecedented feat in 1992 when its bet, the sultry UP- educated Celevel Ranoco  won for the town its third consecutive Miss Bohol Sandugo title. The record still stands today.

Celevel is presently the Gen. Manager
of Saatchi & Saatchi- Singapore
1998 Josely Yap Ferniz of Bilar was crowned the queen in an all- Filipiniana- inspired pageant edition. It was the pageant’s tribute to the Philippine Centennial Year Celebration.

1999 It was the first & only time that the pageant selected two winners for the title of 1999 Miss Bohol Sandugo. Ria Nina Cubillo of Calape (competed under the A.B.E.N.A. sash) was named Miss Bohol Sandugo- Bb. Pilipinas while Jenifer A. Ejoc of Catigbian was named Miss Bohol Sandugo- Mutya ng Pilipinas.

No, there wasn’t a tie and the organizers insisted that the titles were of equal importance. This was also the first time that there were more judges than candidates. Seventeen judges were tasked to select the winners from the field of 16 candidates.
Two Miss Bohol Winners for 1999
2000 Miss Calape  Mellanie Wallace was a graduating high school student of Bohol Wisdom School when she was crowned Miss Bohol Sandugo that year thus entering pageant record books as the youngest ever to win the crown in contemporary times.

This was also the year when the two- piece made its debut in Miss Bohol
2000 Miss Bohol Sandugo Top Three

2005 When Anna Maris Arcay Igpit  was crowned the winner that year, she did not realize that she was about to enter two pageant history records in Bohol; she was the first Miss Bohol winner to win a national beauty title (she was the 2006 Bb. Pilipinas- World winner).

Anna also reigned for three years (there were no pageant editions in 2006 & 2007), the longest reign ever for a present generation Miss Bohol winner.
1st Miss Bohol to become a Bb. Pilipinas titleholder
2012  Idy Casenas Cagas became the fifth beauty from Jagna to win the crown. Between 1990 and 2012, Jagna has harvested five Miss Bohol Sandugo crowns, three consecutive 1st runners up placements and one 2nd runner up, the most for any town in Bohol.

How about you dear readers? Do you have any interesting Miss Bohol trivia or photo to share? Your Blogger would be more than glad to do a feature on your submitted trivia/ photo

By the way, I just a received an official invitation to the 2014 Miss Bohol Press Conference & Poolside Presentation at one of the ritzy resorts in Panglao tomorrow. Eighteen hopefuls will be presented to the press in their identical swimwear.

Will be giving the updates as soon as I can.
