2013 Miss Universe Gabriela Isler Visits & Cheers Up Coron, Palawan Typhoon Victims

Reigning Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela “Molly” Isler of Venezuela has left a positive impression among Filipinos.

After a warm welcome and a thunderous reception during the 2014 Bb Pilipinas Pageant, she flew to Coron, Palawan, one of the most devastated islands affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) to conduct a humanitarian mission

Isler who is from Venezuela says she is happy to visit Coron and to see for herself the rehabilitation program the government is currently undertaking to overcome the crisis.

She will drumbeat for international assistance through the Miss Universe Foundation.

Mr. James Morgan of Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid “CORDAID” the group that is coordinating Ms Isler’s visit said “This will be a great chance for Coron to be heard with no less than the reigning Miss Universe speaking in behalf of the Coronians,"

"Aside from presenting her the present condition of Coron, we will also show her the unique culture of Calamianes. She will observe local tradition, songs and war and marriage dances," Reyes says.

Isler's heart was broken a day after she was crowned Miss Universe when the super typhoon hit Philippines. And she can't sit down there doing nothing.

"That's why I went to Coron. I want to empower more women and children and become role model to them. I want to help the community," the Good Samaritan beauty queen says.

Isler always remembers what her mother told her. "She taught me that life is all about karma. If you give, the more will be given to you. I love to help people and get this chance to be a
role model not only for beauty but also for charity," she told reporters in Manila.

Her day in Coron will be spent with indigenous people in Bgy. Banuang Daan, Coron Island.

Reyes, the lady mayor of the town says Isler's visit means a lot for the rehabilitation efforts of the local government.
"More projects are coming in to the extent that we run out of technical people to do various programs of work. Most of the assistance came from international governments and foreign organizations.
Local foundations and LGUs are also extending assistance through construction and repair of basic facilities such as school, health center, housing, and medicines. With the Miss Universe's visit, we are expecting to hear more good news for Coronians," Reyes says.

AirJuan, the airline company that opens Coron to Puerto Princesa route recently, is the official carrier of Miss Universe's trip to Coron.
