Miss Bohol 1990: Tiffany Matuod Yap

Miss Jagna is Miss Bohol 1990
As with the previous year, Miss Bohol 1990 was officially known as Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands to go with the Dept. of Tourism's two- year Fiesta Islands marketing campaign before it metamorphosed into Miss Bohol Sandugo in 1991.

The second & final edition of Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands Pageant was handled by the Bohol Confederation of Youth Organizations or BCYO, the same group that organized the very successful 1989 Campus Girl Search won coincidentally by Tiffany Matuod Yap.

Ricky Inting, one of the legendary dancers of his generation, choreographed and directed the pageant. Your Roving Eye and Ms. Leni Ingking were assigned the emceeing job.

Who can forget the former Tiffany Matuod Yap, daughter of Engr. Abraham Yap and Corazon Matuod, a pageant neophyte who won two very important Bohol- based beauty titles?

Tiffany would always be remembered for winning the Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands crown in a dramatic come- from- behind fashion.

With her second beauty title, she was able to silence her skeptics and had proven that her Campus Girl victory was neither fluke nor a luck-of-the draw.

She was to win the first of three Miss Bohol crowns for Jagna in three consecutive years; 1990, 1991 and 1992. To date, the municipality of Jagna still holds the record of being the only LGU in Bohol to achieve the distinction.

Your Roving Eye's first Miss Bohol emceeing stint

During the 10th year anniversary of Miss Bohol Sandugo in July 2000, Tiffany Yap- Glarino and Winnie M. Lim- Ventulan, 1989 Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands title holder who were both invited for the pageant milestone were properly acknowledged moments before the coronation of the new titleholder.

The 1st Runner Up, Marivic Labado would later be crowned Miss Cebu Doctors College that year and make it the following year as a member of Penshoppe Circle- Batch 1991, then the country's most prestigious modeling search for image models. I would always remember Tiffany for her charming disposition and almost child- like shyness. During rehearsals, she would just stay in one corner, read her books and notes which she always carried with her.

On a personal note, this pageant would be very memorable to me for this was to be the first of so many emceeing honors for future editions of Miss Bohol Sandugo.

Who would have known that I would still be hosting the pageant twenty years after its launching?

Tiffany has retained her beauty queen look two decades after winning her 1989 Campus Girl- Bohol title and her 1990 Miss Bohol Fiesta Islands crown

Sevilla's Bet for Miss Bohol 2016

SEVILLA'S SWEET & SHY STUNNER

The Little Baguio of Bohol, Sevilla, rarely sends candidates to the annual search for Bohol's fairest but when it does, it makes sure that teir candidate is topnotch.

Meet the Municipality of Sevilla’s official bet in the 2016 Miss Bohol Pageant Search.

Queenie Mae Varquez Baquial, 19 years old, is a graduating BS Tourism student of Bohol Island State University- Main Campus.

Queenie who is a member of her town’s Parish Youth Movement & the Confraternity of Our Lady of Lourdes is no stranger to beauty pageants.

PAGEANT EXPERIENCES

At the age of 15, she represented Holy Trinity School in the province- wide search for Miss BACS (Bohol Association of Catholic Schools) where she emerged as Miss BACS Athletics (equivalent to 2nd RU).
  Miss BACS Athletics 2012

Standout during province- wide search for Miss BACS 2012
On the same year, she also represented her municipality in the Mr. & Ms Teen Bohol Search. Although she didn’t make the Top Five, the experience itself was more than enough to boost her self- confidence & improve her interpersonal skills. Winning last year’s Mutya ng Sevilla (Pearl of Sevilla) gave her the honor of representing her town in the 2016 Miss Bohol Pageant, which marks the 90th year since the first Miss Bohol was crowned in 1926.

HEARTBREAKING LOSS

We always associate beauty queens with glitz and glamour but Queenie is not your typical beauty queen. Prior to and right after her crowning as Mutya ng Sevilla, she lost two very important women in her life to breast cancer. She dedicated her Mutya ng Sevilla victory to her grandma who passed away days before the pageant and to her mother who also passed away a month after her crowning.

According to Queenie, she does not participate that much in campus organizations as she is focusing on her studies and is helping out in the household chores. She is grateful that her older brother was able to land a job abroad just last year.

She has found solace & comfort in knowing her two loved ones are in a place where there is no pain. At the same time, she draws strength from her painful losses every time adversity strikes.

If and when Lady Luck smiles at her during pageant night, she will dedicate her year of reign to focusing on Bohol's tourism draws and help increase the awareness level on breast cancer

The beauty queen also revealed that she is dedicating her Miss Bohol participation not only to her municipality but also to her grandmother and her mother who were both avid pageant fans.

With teary eyes, she clearly remembers that her parents were monitoring the Miss Sevilla pageant right at their home since her mom was already too sick to attend the pageant finals and besides, their house is only a few meters away from the cultural center & gymnasium where the pageant was being staged.
 Triumph over Tragedy
The beauty queen shares that her participation in the province’s most prestigious beauty competition would surely boost her confidence and be a big help for her in her future career in the tourism industry.

As the big night for the Sandugo Festival’s most glamorous highlight gets nearer and nearer, Queenie takes comfort that she has the support not only of Sevilla but also the love and support of her mom and grandma from up above.

Thanks to Sevilla Vice Mayor Richard Bucag for the info & photos.

The Rotary Club of Tagbilaran celebrated a milestone when it staged the 10th year anniversary of its highly- anticipated Rotary Santacruzan, the club’s annual fundraiser that  is based on a beautiful traditional religious activity that celebrates the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helen, the mother of Constantine the Great.

Back in year 2006, Rtn. The affair wrapped up later in the evening at the Bohol Cultural Center with the dazzling parade of beauty queens, socialites, debutantes & philanthropists who embodied beauty, civic- mindedness & generosity.
