Panglao Makes a Splash in Sinulog Street Dancing 2018

It takes stamina, discipline, a strong faith in God and of course, financial & moral support from municipal officials and corporate sponsors to be able to take part in the Sinulog Grand Street parade.

The municipality of Panglao, considered as Bohol tourism’s crowning jewel sent a Sinulog dance contingent for the Sinulog- based category of the Sinulog Contest. The 380- strong Panglao contingent led by Mayor Nila Montero was garbed in brightly- coloured costumes and danced from morning till late afternoon without missing a beat or losing grace and poise.

With the watchful eyes & rigid training from the Panglao United Choreographer’s Association, the delegation’s efforts and hard work paid off with not one but three awards from the competition. Fifth place overall from close to 20 dance contingents from the Visayas and Mindanao plus 4^th Place Best in Musicality and 5^th Place for Choreography.

The jubilant Panglao Mayor Nila Montero was in good spirits and congratulated the entire delegation for the achievement. 

“Our contingent’s phenomenal showing is not only a validation of our hard work and a solid proof that we can go head to head with the country’s best but also a reflection of our strong faith in Sr. Santo Nino. This victory is not only for Panglao but for the province of Bohol”

The Montero family has always been supportive of the arts and culture scene. Almost single- handedly, they shouldered the logistical requirements for the contingent after the supposed approved budget wasn’t released on time.

Joining the contingent were PNP Panglao Chief Police Inspector Romar Labasbas and Bohol Tourist Police Unit Chief PCI Jul Jamiri, MHO Dr. Julita Cogo and Kag. Aya Montero.

The vibrant colors, the hypnotic beat, the pageantry and the general excitement that pervaded the air during the grand street parade affirmed the strong religiosity, cultural roots and fun- loving nature of our Cebuano neighbors during the 2018 Sinulog festival.

Just last year, the Municipality of Garcia-Hernandez under the leadership of Mayor Tita marked another milestone as it was conferred with an award as the 2nd Most Improved LGUin the 2017 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) during the 5th Regional Competitiveness Summit and Awards Ceremony held on August 16, 2017 at the Reception Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Under the category of 3rd to 6th Class Municipalities, the Municipality of Garcia-Hernandez jumps from rank 702 in 2016 to rank 94 in 2017 making it second most improved LGU among all the municipalities in this category.
