Megan Young Impresses Miss World 2013 Judges

AND NOW IT CAN BE TOLD

The license holder and national director of Miss World Philippines said she is not surprised by the victory of Megan Young in the international pageant.

Cory Quirino cited the licensees’ first impressions of the Filipina beauty.

Young was crowned Miss World 2013 during a culminating event in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday, making her the first Filipino winner of the title.

In an interview on radio DZMM’s “Rated Korina” on Monday, Cory Quirino recalled how a number of Miss World licensees from other countries were awestruck by Young’s beauty to the point of admitting that she is, without a doubt, this year’s winner.

“This is the first time na ang mga karibal natin sa ibang bansa ang lumapit sa akin noong dumating ako sa Bali at sinabi nila, ‘suko na kami sa kandidata niyo.’ Sabi nila sa akin,”

said Quirino, who has been a licensee of the Miss World Philippines pageant for the past three years.

Another source of confidence for them, Quirino said, is Young’s performance in the pre-pageant competitions and what blogs say about her.

The Filipina beauty won during the Miss World Top Model competition, ranked fifth in the Beach Fashion tilt, and placed fourth in the Multimedia contest.

“As of 5 p.m., two hours before the pageant, ang No. 1 sa beauty pageant bloggers, ang radar ng mga beauty pageants sa buong mundo, ‘yung Global Beauties, they ranked Megan No.1 already, kaya mataas ang aming confidence level,” Quirino explained.

Pero siyempre, kailangang magdasal pa rin, you’ll never know kung anong mangyayari sa Miss World. Sobrang laki ng pageant,” she added, noting that over 100 women from different parts of the globe competed for the crown.

Quirino also cited how Young was singled out by Indonesian princess and fashion designer Ayu Mirah Suardhana to be her muse during the Top Model competition, which she eventually won.

“Si Megan ang naging paborito ng napakapopular na prinsesa dito sa Bali, si Ayu Mirah. Siya’y isang sikat na fashion designer sa Top Model competition. Nalaman ko na siya lang ang lumapit kay Julia Morley (Miss World founder) at humingi ng permiso. Sabi niya, ‘I want to choose my candidate. I want to dress up only one candidate, and that is Philippines,’” she said.

Shortly after Young's win, Quirino and the rest of her team were informed that the Miss World judges were also in awe of the Filipina’s unique beauty the moment they first saw her at the pageant’s head office in Bali.

“Kinuwento nga nila na hindi alam ni Megan na nang pumasok siya sa head office ng Miss World dito sa Bali… Ang reaksyon ng mga judges ay parang nanganga sila. They were really in awe. Sabi nila, ‘she’s so beautiful, where is she from?’

“And then they looked at her, ‘yung parang they pointed a finger [at her]. Sabi nila, ‘she’s the one.’ ‘Yun ang naging reaksyon ng ibang mga judges,” she said.

Quirino said they are now preparing for a “grand homecoming” for Young, who is set to return to the country within eight days.

The newly crowned Miss World 2013 is currently in London for a charity gala event.

“Si Megan ay nasa London na ngayon. Lumipad siya kagabi dahil sa… napakalaking charity gala night sa London,” Quirino said.

“Pagkatapos, lilipad siya rito pabalik sa atin sa Pilipinas in eight days. Kaya actually, it’s good kasi mayroon tayong panahon para makapaghanda para sa kanyang grand homecoming,” she added.

“Magiging malaking piyesta rito sa Manila at sa buong Pilipinas dahil sabi ng Miss World, ‘we will give you all the time you want with Megan. She is yours.’” -Via: Article: ABS-CBN News/photos: MWO
