Miss Calape 2017 Evening Gown Competition

The evening gown competition would always be the most elegant part of any beauty pageant for it showcases each candidate as she sashays onstage in the most classy and most regal way.

The choice of gown could either make or break the chances of the candidates as the judges give points for their overall presentation but in the end it’s how the girls carry the gowns that really matter. After all, it’s “Best in Gown” and not the “Best Gown” award that is given to the candidate who tops this segment.

It's Another Best Gown Award for Leo Almodal!

Our very own Janicel Lubina, the Philippines’ very own Cinderella may not have gotten a fairy tale ending in her Miss International 2015 journey which concluded yesterday with the selection of Venezuela’s Edymar Martinez as the big winner but she was voted as the Best Dresser awardee (the equivalent to Best Evening Gown).

Thanks to top Filipino fashion designer Leo Almodal who described Janicel’s winning gown as
An Italian organza gown that is richly embellished with thousands of cherry blossoms appliques merge with Japanese glass pearls and sparkled with swarovzki crystals replicating the stars in the heavens.
This is a testament for the impeccable craftsmanship and world- class talent of Mr. Almodal and a tribute to Filipino designers by extension.

Japan is Miss Grand Intl Best in Gown
Mr. Almodal’s  triumph in Miss International 2015 is a follow- up to his Best Gown award for the sartorial perfection worn by Miss Japan during the Miss Grand International 2015 finals last October 25. Imagine winning two international pageant awards just eleven days apart?

Congratulations Leo Almodal! May you continue dressong up our hopeful Pinay beauties in the global arena of beauty and glamour!

Pinoy Designers Win the Best Gown & Best National Costume Awards in Miss Grand International 2015

Aside from Parul Shah’s impressive showing in the recently- concluded Miss Grand International 2015 Pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand, there are two other Pinoys who distinguished themselves in the three- year old international beauty competition.

Parul Glitters & Glistens Like Gold

The first one is designer Edwin Uy who designed the glittering Muslim Maranao Princess Costume that won for Parul Shah the Best National Costume Award. The golden Princess Urduja- inspired costume set off Parul’s tanned complexion beautifully.

The other designer is Leo Almodal whose fabulous and elegant creation for Miss Japan won for her the Best in Evening Gown award.

While the award is primarily for how the candidate wore the gown, still the design & the craftsmanship made the difference and made the candidate from the Land of the Rising Sun stand out for sartorial perfection.

Eda in Her Exquisitely Elegant Evening Gown Presentation

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not what the candidate wears that gets the star billing in the evening gown competition. It’s the poise, the grace & confidence in the way the candidate carries herself

Eda  Calimbayan Cimafranca: Elegance

Although the gown’s design can also make or break a girl’s chance of making a positive impression in this area of judging, judges always look for class and elegance in what is considered the most glamorous part of the competition.

Eda is shown with Will DeVaughn
Here are some of the photos that captured Miss Bohol 2015 Eda Calimbayan Cimafranca’s winning attitude and the aura of confidence when she stepped onstage in her evening gown.

Sixteen year old Eda exuded so much elegance & elan in her evening gown presentation that even when her heels snagged her gown’s hemline which resulted in a slight trip could not get in the way to bagging the Best in Evening Gown special award.

Part 3: Miss Bohol 2015 Evening Gowns

The Evening Gown Competition was the high point of the Miss Bohol 2015 Pageant with all 23 ladies garbed in stylish and elegant sartorial interpretations as created by Bohol & non- Boholano designers.

Judging the Best in Evening Gown was based on class & elegance, fashion flair, poise & charm and the overall impression.

The judges were reminded that the winner of the Best in Gown award should be chosen based on how well she carried the gown and not the other way around although the choice of gown can also make or break a candidate's chances in the pageant.

In fairness, this year’s gowns have generally improved. There were no fashion disasters but minutes before the pageant started, a candidate was in tenterhooks and her handlers were on the verge of a massive coronary after the girl’s Cebu- made gown was delivered at the last- minute. It was a rip- off according to those who saw the gown. Good thing there were angels among the staff who helped fix the gown.

Aftermath: The girl’s height, elegant stance & pretty face couldn’t save the monstrosity that passed off for a gown. She may not have advanced to the final round but she did earn everyone’s respect for the way she handled the crisis with poise & composure

Part 2: Miss Bohol 2015 Evening Gown Segment

The Evening Gown Competition proved to be the most elegant part of the competition. Adding to the romantic feel of the segment was the soothing saxophone paean to the jazzy & easy listening music from the past. For the next batch of girls, the assigned colors were turquoise & purple which paid homage to Bohol’s beaches and the ubi kinampay
