Jagna: Beauty Capital of Bohol

Aside from its famous delicacy Calamay, the coastal town of Jagna is also famous for its beautiful women. Ascencion Gaviola is officially recorded as the very first to be crowned as Miss Bohol and the first Boholana to compete in a nationwide pageant that was sanctioned by then Pres. Manuel L. Quezon in 1926.

Jagna also set a record in Miss Bohol for its seven consecutive placements in the Top Three from 1989 to 1995.

But its reputation as the home to some of Bohol’s most beautiful women was set in 1992 when Jagna became the first municipality to win the Miss Bohol crown in three successive years.

Miss Bohol 2015 Reunion of Queens

The 2015 Miss Bohol Pageant had a vintage- themed edition. From the glamshots complete with faux fur & pearl necklace to the one- piece swimwear and all the way to the evening gown competition.

In keeping with the theme and the tribute to all the Miss Bohol titleholders who captivated an entire generation through the years, the queens who were in attendance during the pageant were properly acknowledged onstage.

The ladies’ presence proved to be the emotional highlight of the pageant which underscored their contribution to  Bohol’s beautiful & colorful history.

2006 Miss CVRAA: Idy Casenas Cagas

Did you know that before she became a lead star in the hit ABS CBN teleserye Dream Dad, Beauty Gonzales was a runner up to our very own Idy Cagas in the 2006 Miss CVRAA Pageant? She represented Dumaguete City in the  2006 Miss CVRAA (Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association) together with representatives from the provinces of Siquijor, Cebu and Negros Oriental (she represented Bohol) as well as the candidates from Region 7 component cities

Idy Cagas' winning moment  came with her answer to the final question that clinched her the crown:

Question:  If you were to choose between beauty and brains, what will you choose and why? 

Idy's Answer: For me beauty without brains is nothing and beauty and brains would be nothing if the attitude is bad

SIDE NOTE:

The audience reacted with a deafening roar when Idy gave this answer.

Idy became nervous with the crowd's reaction thinking she said the wrong thing not knowing that while she was giving her answer, there was the unbecoming and unladylike spectacle of two candidates who were openly showing their mutual dislike for each other by getting physical onstage infront of the stunned audience and dumbfounded judges.

It turned out that unwittingly and indirectly, she was reminding the two girls and everyone in the audience the essence of a beauty queen

Idy was only 16 years old that time.

Your Blogger Reunites with Miss Bohol Winners

To be honest, I almost choked when my emotions almost got the upper hand right after Miss Bohol 2014 was crowned.

You see, I had an instant reunion with some Miss Bohol titleholders who graced the coronation last July 19 at the Bohol Wisdom Gym. Seeing all of them brought back wonderful memories of yesteryears when I was hosting the pageant. 

To actually be talking, giggling, hugging and exchanging numbers led to an instant photo opportunity to capture the moment.

It was one of the high points of my hosting gig during the Miss Bohol 2014 Pageant. I have been lucky that I have been able to keep the friendships that were made during the years that these amazing had competed in.

Bohol Paddlers Association Inc (BPAi) single- handedly made dragon boating the hottest water sports spectacle in Bohol.

After a very successful staging of the Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat Federation Club Crew Challenge held at the scenic Tagbilaran City Bay in Dauis last April, interest and participation in drgon boat races here in Bohol has skyrocketed

A much- anticipated participation in the Penang International Dragon Boat in Malaysia last December 4 was aborted after the earthquake and super typhoon struck the Visayas

2.THE BABA YAP PHENOMENON

Baba Yap defied all odds and got elected as Tagbilaran City’s youngest ever mayor. He parlayed his charisma, good looks, youth, relative experience and mass appeal into a hard- earned electoral victory. He was able to weather his first 100 days and is on his way to prove that youth is not a hindrance to be the city’s Chief Executive

Beauty pageant queens in Bohol are getting younger and younger

Teenagers whose ages range from 17 to 19 compose this year's Miss Bohol Sandugo Top Five

Eighteen year old Brigette Burato gave the Municipality of Alicia its first Miss Bohol Sandugo crown with a convincing and emphatic interview response

The pageant veteran whose slew of pageant titles has given her the unmistakable confidence and winning aura gave a very solid performance in all segments of the competition

Among her pageant titles are the 2013 Miss University of San Carlos School of Business & Economics and the 2012 Miss Olive C- USC Campus. 

This campus beauty is not lacking in the brains department either. 

She is a consistent #1 Dean's Lister in USC's School of Business and Economics

Named 1st Runner Up and Miss Photogenic was Miss Baclayon Shaila Mae Rebortera, 17 years old. She was crowned Lakambini at Ateneo de Davao University High School. 

A Teatro Ateneo president, Shaila is a first year college student at Cebu Doctors University

The 2nd Runner Up is a lovely 17 year old whose family lineage includes former Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia. 

Dae Narah Garcia  who was Bb. Talibon 2012 is a college student at Silliman University in Dumaguete City

Rounding out the Top Five were:

Miss Dauis is Best in Swimsuit & Best in Gown

Miss Dauis Elaine Cimafranca,19, who is taking up International Studies at Mirriam College, Quezon City. Elaine is the elder sister of Miss Teen Tagbilaran 2012 and Miss Bohol International 2012 Mary Ebone Cimafranca.

Miss Loon Jan Jeahnette Labastida, 19, is taking up Pharmacy at University of Bohol. 

A member of the Parish Youth Ministry and Confraternity of Our Lady of Lourdes, she was Miss University of Bohol Pharmacy 2010 and Miss Loon Sidlakasilak 2012

Moments before the name of the new Miss Bohol Sandugo was revealed, some members of the audience thought that Miss Dauis already had it in the bag for she already won two of the major special titles, namely; Best in Swimsuit and Best in Gown

SHOCKS & SURPRISES

The shockers of the night were the failure of heavy favorites Miss Guindulman, Miss Panglao and Miss Catigbian to enter the Top Five
