Paulina Krupinska: 2013 Miss Universe Poland

Ara Arida should watch out for Miss Poland Paulina Krupinska in Miss Universe 2013

VERY BEAUTIFUL MISS POLAND FOR MISS UNIVERSE 2013

The Philippines rejoiced last April 14 when a truly beautiful Filipina from Alaminos, Pangasinan named Ariela Ara Arida was selected as is candidate for Miss Universe 2013.

Everyone is confident that she will continue our three year Miss Universe Top Five streak and possibly just might be our third Miss Universe winner. but it won't be a walk in the park for her.

Other countries have already picked their candidates.

While surfing through the net this morning, I came across one such beauty who I predict will figure strongly in what is considered as the World Cup of Beauty, Miss Universe. She is Miss Poland 2013.

Her name? Paulina Krupinska.

If the new trend of the Miss Universe Organization will continue which is to select sweet and pretty prototypes of Miss Universe winners who have that globally appealing facial beauty continues, then Paulina just might be it

The embodiment of the new Miss Universe slogan: Confidently Beautiful

1957 Miss Bohol: Olivia Solis

 Miss Bohol 1957: Olivia Solis

BOHOLANOS IN THE LOCAL & NATIONAL NEWS

Year 1957 is an important year for Boholanos for within that time period, Carlos Polistico  Garcia, a homegrown Boholano, would assume the highest elective position in the country by ascendancy and later to be affirmed & validated with a convincing 44% share of the total votes in the four- cornered fight for president.

That same year in the local beauty scene, the Boholano public in general and pageant aficionados in particular were mesmerized and captivated by the luminous  beauty & charm  of a lass from the town of Calape who was crowned the 1957 Miss Bohol. Newspapers and word- of- mouth immediately hailed her as one of the most beautiful Boholanas to ever win the crown.

CALAPE CHARMER
She had the movie actress- sounding name of Olivia Solis who hailed from the town of Calape.

Olivia was so beautiful that she was deluged with offers to do Visayan movies during the 60's. She became a very popular lead actress in Visayan films.

She became an even bigger star after the Visayan serial radio drama song "Dawata na Olivia" which was composed especially for her became a huge hit in the Visayas and Mindanao during the 70's.

in the Visayan film industry back in the 70's
VISAYAN MOVIE ACTRESS
The Visayas boasted of its very own Cebu City- based film industry that had its dialogue in Cebuano. It peaked between the 1950s and 1970's decade. During its heyday, it had its own film studios with Visayan- speaking actors and actresses that included Olivia Solis.

The 1970's saw the emergence of more Visayan talents in the mainstream Tagalog film industry. Actresses such as Olivia Sanchez, Chanda Romero, Caridad Sanches, Alma Moreno, Tessie Sevilla, Rebecca Torres, Aurora Villa, Eva de Villa, Rosita Fernandez, Virgie Postigo, Virgie Solis, Olivia Solis, Cora Real, Diana Arong, Luz Celeste, Annabelle Rama, Suzette Ranillo, Lady Ramos, Pilar Pilapil, and others stepped into the limelight.

This exodus eventually contributed to the unexpected demise of the Visayan film industry because the popular box office draws have left Cebu for Manila.

LATER YEARS
She later became a US resident but she returned to the Philippines when her husband became a Cebu City councilor in the late ‘90s.

I had the chance to see her in person and introduce her to an adoring hometown when she graced the 2000 Miss Calape Pageant which I emceed.

She was greeted with the loudest cheers and applause when she was acknowledged during the pageant.

Indeed, she has the timeless looks and elegance of a classic Hollywood movie star.

She proved to be the lucky charm for Melanie Wallace, the 2000 Miss Calape winner.

Miss Wallace was able to duplicate Ms Olivia Solis' achievement when she was crowned later that year as Miss Bohol Sandugo.

Presently, she is based in Hawaii where she spends her time for meaningful pursuits such as outreach and supporting her husband’s community involvement.

Timeless eleganc

Today, the ageless Olivia Solis shuttles between
the Philippines & the U.S. to visit her grand kids

Today Is My Blog's Eight Monthsary!

As I surpass the halfway mark and inch closer to my blog's first year anniversary, I have so much to be thankful for.

What started out initially as my catharsis and self- expression has evolved into a chronicle for past, present and future events here in Bohol and beyond. It has been a venue also to showcase the achievements of some Boholano greats and newsmakers.

This is my paean for them.

I am grateful for all my visitors.

Thank you for your feedback, your comments and a lot more.

Thank you for inspiring me and for egging me so I can continue.

There have been times when I wanted to quit but at the end of the day, I realized that I'm here because I just want to share my musings and ramblings about the world and not for anything else.

To Anciro Romana of  http://www.thebackpackman.com/ , to Lilibeth Lamdagan- Haroun, to Mikey Gatal of http://www.mikeygatal.com/connect/ and to my regular visitors, Daghang Salamat!

Cheers!

DO's and DON'Ts For Election 2013

Tomorrow is a going to be one special day for every Filipino. Along with basketball and cockfighting, politics is one of the passions for Juan de la Cruz. Many important issues both national and local have been dissected, debated and discussed heatedly.

It is our obligation to exercise our right of suffrage. The past few weeks of intense campaigning has brought out the best and the worst in us. Politics have always been divisive and have been proven to be stressful. Alliances have been dismantled and pacts have been forged.

The candidates have spoken and you have heard them. You have until tonight or early tomorrow to do some honest- to- goodness soul searching. Do not let the media nor your family influence decide for you.

Remember, every vote counts so go out and help steer our country's destiny to greater heights.

Before you go to the precincts tomorrow, please take time to read the following tips so your voting experience will be stress- free and fast.

DO'S & DON'TS FOR ELECTION 2013:

Are you ready to vote? The polls open for Election Day in less than 24 hours. It will be an important day, so it's a good idea to be prepared when you head to the voting booth.

Remember, voting starts at 7 am and ends at 7 pm. Extension is however granted if there is a huge turnout of voters. I remember last Election 2010, I was able to cast my vote at almost 12 midnight already. Already starving and thirsty, I had no other choice but to wait for my turn. Nothing can beat the feeling after one has cast his/ her ballot

The Dos':

1) Bring along a list containing the names of who you will vote for. Make sure you have made your choices carefully and wisely. A prepared list will ensure that you avoid making mistakes and makes the process faster and more efficient. Trust me on this

Remember, you can only vote for :

12 Senators
1 Governor
1 Vice Governor
1 Congressman
1 Mayor
1 Vice Mayor
1 Party List

for Board Members & Councilors, the number varies for city or municipality

2) Be prepared for beating the heat on Election Day by bringing an umbrella, a handkerchief or face towel, a fan, bottle water, candies and perhaps some sandwiches.

3) Make sure your hands are clean to avoid unnecessary marks on your ballot

4) Look for your precinct on the list and upon getting there, approach the Board of Election of Inspectors. They will ask for an ID before you are asked to sign on the list of voters, so don't forget to bring a valid ID to help the election officer verify your identity

Here are the Don'ts:

1) Over vote, or shade more than the required number of candidates in a given position.

2) Be careless when shading the oval otherwise they will be invalidated by the machine. Please shade the oval completely

2) Look or peek at the ballots of others

3) Put unnecessary marks on the ballot other than the circles that are supposed to be shaded

4) Convert the ballot into an instant hand fan

5) Make the ballot wet

6) Fold your ballot. A voter is entitled to one ballot only so you have to avoid making any mistakes

After voting, insert the ballot in the PCOS machine, return the folder and marking pen to the BEI and get your finger dabbed with indelible ink. Don't loiter or stay around your precinct after voting.

2013 Bohol Dragon Boat Race Winners

Dept of Tourism Central Visayas Regional Director Rowena "Weng" Montecillo together with Judy Quiachon strike a pose with the Bohol Paddler's Association dragon boat team. Also seen is Rey Tirol, one of the group's pillars and founders

The presence of the Department of Tourism and the enthusiastic support given by the DOT Region 7 Director Rowena Montecillo to the four- day event is already indicative of the potential of the event to draw in tourists and visitors.

Thank you Ms Weng and to your staff for the assistance and the support

Prayer before the Race

The recently- concluded 2nd Cobra- International Dragon Boat Federation International Club Crew Challenge held in Dauis, Bohol truly lived up to its billing as the hottest and most exciting sporting spectacle to hit the province this summer

BPA Ladies surely  know how to beat the heat

HUGE TURNOUT

The event drew more than 600 paddlers from 14 dragon boat teams, team managers and sponsors from all over the country.

The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) came in full force and led by its president, Marcia Cristobal.

The two- day hostilities that consisted of eight final races in three categories saw frenzied action from the competing teams that included champion teams Philippine Army and Philippine Navy.

When the waters had quieted down and the paddles had been hauled away for safekeeping, everyone was in for a pleasant surprise.

The much - anticipated neck-and- neck race for the overall championship between the highly- rated teams didn't materialize.

NEW CHAMPIONS:

Coming out from nowhere to claim the Overall Championship was the Philippine Coast Guard followed closely by the Cinderella runner up finish of Lake Buhi Dragon Boat Team, composed of humble fishermen from Buhi, Camarines Sur.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT FROM BOHOL

The neophyte teams from Bohol didn't disappoint either. Three of their four teams landed in the Top Four of their respective race categories.

Disbelief and doubts turned into instant respect and adulation with their impressive showing in their first ever PDBF- sanctioned dragon boat regatta.

Butuan City's Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) Dragon Boat Team, composed of young college students, did well also and were the certified darlings of the crowd for their good- looking paddlers who were so disciplined and focused in their races. take a bow young men and women from FSUU.
