President CPG formerly known as Pitogo Island rarely sends a candidate to Miss Bohol and this year, the northeastern town known for its succulent crabs is represented by a multi- talented lady who models and joins motocross races.
Meet Candidate # 15 Marjorie Theresa Barcial Monte, 21 years old, who is representing the youngest town of Bohol that is named for the province's most famous son, Carlos P. Garcia. The svelte beauty has interned as an FM radio DJ. She finished elementary and high school as salutatorian.
At the time of the interview, she said she is also busy preparing for her thesis oral defense scheduled this week.
Here’s the history of the island- town of Pres. CPG as quoted by Marjorie from various sources:
HISTORY OF PRES. CARLOS P. GARCIA
In the early part of the 19th century, the place was part of the Municipality of Ubay, known as Lapinig Grande and subdivided into six barrios: Pitogo, Aguining, Basiao, Bonbonon, Gaus, and Tugas.
Congressman Teodoro Galagar of the 3rd Congressional District of the province of Bohol, initiated the formation of Lapining Grande into a town. Aguining, Pitogo, and Bonbonon were the barangays bidding for township. On June 21, 1969, RA 5864 was approved creating Pitogo as the 46th town of the province of Bohol with 23 regular barangays. Pitogo won the race, as it has a safe port and was closer to Ubay and Cebu.
Eight years later on November 4, 1977, it was renamed by Presidential Decree 2828 in honour of President Carlos P. Garcia, who was born in nearby Talibon.
Good luck Majorie and the rest of the girls
